Gee despite the result tonight Aiden Sezer has been a solid buy from Benji.

He isnt a rep quality half but gee he could have done a solid job for some of these sides rooted down the bottom in the past 4 years.

He was halfback of a decent but i wouldn't say elite canberra side to a GF in 2019 when he left.

Surprised its taken this long for someone to bring him back considering the shit quality of halfbacks behind the top 4 or 5 in the game atm.

Would so much love to have a running hooker. 2 great examples today Wade Egan and Jeremy Marshall King...shuffling the ball out is just plop..
But there is an opportunity cost. Attacking players cost more, and there's only so many you can fit under the cap. Moses and Drown would be close to top earners at their position. Gutherson would be well inside the top ten paid fullbacks. How much should be left over for our hooker? We didn't let Mahoney go because we didn't rate him. And we replaced him with a bloke at the end of his career who wouldn't have been the subject of much demand. That guy was replaced with a 27-year-old with ten NRL games under his belt.

Paying one player a lot of money means you need to pay others less. The salary cap makes for a literal zero sum calculation. And don't forget last year's grand final featured two starting hookers who barely run.

Ill give credit to Pou for that one while everyone was losing the shit when he signed with the tigers.

He stood solid and pointed out his defence deficiencies wasn't worth matching $$$ what the tigers were paying him.
Gee it'd be nice having him in our middle rotation though

People will point to the soft draw which is why the Dolphins are 1st.

I think it reinforces what a quality coach Wayne Bennett is and why we should be chasing him right now why he doesnt have a contract next year before souths pounce.

I dare say we wouldn't have a "soft" mentality once a month under Bennett that we constantly do under BA.

And you KNOW this is why we don’t have a running hooker right? Couldn’t possibly be a stylistic choice by the coach? Even though reed wasn't on peanuts at parra and was never a running hooker with us?

You know nothing - you just troll every thread in the hopes of staunchly defending mediocrity.

It is both. I'm sure the coach knows a hooker with a running game is better than a hooker without one. But under a salary cap you can't have everything. Our club has prioritised other areas than the dummy half's run game, as have the two grand final teams last year. Other clubs are willing to commit a lot of their cap to the dummy half position. It's like Thomas Sowell said, there are no solutions, only trade offs.

And while having a prolific dummy half runner is nice to have, it is not essential to win a premiership. The 2023 Panthers and the Roosters sides of 2018-19 didn't feature much dummy half running from their hookers. Every run these merkins take is one less from potentially better players.

You literally thought I claimed that the salary cap meant the club (the coach, in your words) has no choices to make. I'm telling you the cap forces choices on every club, even the ones with advantages outside the cap.

You're in no position to judge anything I say. You are too blinded by anger and hatred. Go and have a lie down.
