........... wot?

Gutherson is a rep level player, we just need about another 5 of him lol.

Yes, I agree, we need a star player or two in key areas of need and another quality one as well, probably on the wing.

I'm referring to the poster I was responding to in the post you quoted who is arguing that Gutherson is not good enough for Origin because he's not likely to be picked....because, with some people on here, it seems that whoever can be the most miserable wins extra points.

We really need a quality hooker. It's almost the most important position on the field in the modern game. Unfortunately, we are not a settled club yet. We haven't actually got a board as such, we're less than two years out from when we completely disintegrated and we're still not an attractive proposition for star footballers.

And I'm sure saying that again will attract the same knuckleheads who tried to shout it down last night, but it's a big issue. Ultimately we still need time...

But according to who?

A bloke like Brown will never play for Australia or NSW - not because he's not good enough, but because there will always be some player that is deemed better than him who gets chosen ahead of him.
And that is fine, it doesn't change the quality of player he is.

My point is usually you find players of his standard are rep level players, in his case his not.

Regardless we need more like him or more rep level players, that is what I am saying.

Players of that quality.

Edric Lee needs an angry face.

Bev has scored 17 tries on the wing and 11 at FB by the way.

Maybe Edric and Bev should go angry face shopping together.
Lee has dicks for hands and is soft as butter for a big bloke. BA rightful passed on the plank.

For the first time I agree with pretty much everything you have said.

We are lacking a handful of quality players and namely they are a winger, a hooker and 2 forwards.

Hooker is a severe problem that we have not solved for as long as I can remember, we have not had a good hooker for years. And it is, it is the most influential position in the modern game and that shows, we suck badly from dummy half, I don't know who is available but that is one position we should be moving heaven and earth to fix.

We aren't an attractive proposition whatsoever, only time will fix that which is why I am not sold on what we do from a coaching point of view. I have loved what BA has done but his lost me so far this year, but I am not even sure if he should be punted or not.

I am not sure when the tide might turn and we do attract quality, maybe once the new stadium etc is up and running but then again going into 2019 we could be wooden spooners or there abouts, who would want to be apart of that with our recent history?

I do think it will start to turn with Gutho back. He's such a talisman, his attitude is infectious and he's a dangerous attacking player. Brown missing last night definitely hurt us too, especially when Tepai went down early and never came back.

Get our best side on the field and it will turn. There's a lot of wrist-slitting about last night, but with our best player just back from injury (and our second best injured in his place) we had a deadset try taken off us and missed another on the bounce of the ball. The scoreboard says we scored no tries, sure, and our attack was less than fantastic, but if those things go our way who knows what happens? And I suppose that's a big part of it...confidence is key and confidence often creates luck. How often do you see a team riding high get everything go their way? 2009 was a great example, albeit ancient history. One of these coming weeks those things will go our way, or go against our opponent, and we'll jag a win and all of a sudden we'll start remembering how to win.

I still honestly don't see us as wooden spooners.

Jeez! Pou has hacked Baz's LU account.

I realise your tongue is in your cheek, but stuff like the goalpost shifting in that case does shit me tbh.

Every year merkins go "why did this prick get picked over this bloke?" when it comes to origin...but when we put forward blokes (in this case one who was mentioned in that exact vein last year) who have the ability but miss out for various reasons, we're wrong.

Anything to perpetuate the misery it seems. For some anyway

Look I don't see us making the 8, we have already lost 6 games you need atleast 28-30 points which means out of the next 19 or so round we can only lose 4 or 5.

But we have yet to field our full team and with Gutho and Hayne back along with Brown I am hoping we do jag a few wins, I do think we have enough talent to be infinitely better then we are but it could be too little to late.

I agree Gutherson is an absolute gun I can't believe how good he has become and his attitude and energy is infectious, I think returning on a cold saturday night in Canberra was less then ideal but he had to play if fit.

When it rains it pours like it is for us now, nothing really is going our way and yes we have created alot of that bad luck no one to blame but ourselves, but then you look at the Dragons and Warriors and everything is going they're way, it hopefully will turn but I just think it is to late now.

I didn't see us as wooden spooners, if we can improve with these guys back and a few things go our way then we might atleast become competitive but that is all I am expecting, unfortunately.

We have a fantastic winger in Hayne. Its pretty obvious thats where he should start when he eventually returns.
Whats the chance he will ever play there? Id say Buckleys and none.

The 8 is more than likely too tough an ask now, but that being said it's not THAT much tougher from 1-5 or 1-6. The issue is the start you give other teams with a 0-6 start as much as anything.

It also looks so much worse having an 0-6 start than an 0-6 slump, so people definitely panic.

But I think BA knows what is needed in the squad, it's a matter of actually getting it. Sometimes I feel like people forget we are competing with other clubs. The number of times I see a post that "we should have signed X player" without any understanding of why that player wasn't signed is ludicrous. The recent obsession with Packer from some is a great example, he's now a worse performing player than both Mannah and Alvaro, who blokes reckon he should have replaced. And he's supposedly on 550k a year to boot!

I think the calls for BAs head are reactionary and over the top so soon after coming fourth. I really do think two players turns this around entirely...a good hooker and an aggro style of attacking forward in place of a Terepo/Matagi type.

Just on that last bit, too, the form of our backups hasn't helped. Last season Matagi and Vave made 100m or more twelve and eight times respectively. This year Matagi was running like a busted mule and Vave hasn't even made the squad, whilst Evans has shown no improvement in his work ethic.

The problem is the coaching staff have huge wraps on Kaysa Pritchard and Peni Terepo. f**k knows why though. I think they are good trainers. Another problem is our attacking forward was meant to be Kane Evans - a complete bust at 400k

Well, sort of. Over the past 3 years BA has overseen a recruitment system that has jettisoned our bigger forwards (e.g. Paulo, Pauli Pauli) and brought in smaller blokes, only one of whom is still playing well. The balance of the pack is wrong....and he has overseen the process that has led to that. It's not just failing to land players, it is retention decisions as well. Yes, we are competing with other clubs. And they are competing with us and the rest of the teams. They're doing better at it.

Jettisoned implies deliberately letting go and I don't believe that's at all the case with Paulo.

Would you have matched the Raiders offer for Paulo under the old cap?. He was signed for massive overs under a 7 million cap and we weren't going to tie up nearly ten percent of ours on a prop. Probably good, given we were over the cap at the time.

As for Pauli, how has he been going since he left? It's no use having big players if they suck.

He's also brought in Vave, Evans and Williams in that time. Had a punt on Willis Meehan, the largest human ever. Was a bees dick off signing Vaughan before the Dragons doubled our offer and we couldn't compete. Made an offer to McLean....

At what point would everyone think that the season is gone, 0-8? If not, it must be close to that point. If we are dragging the chain by the end of April then they need to look to 2019 and make some experimental changes above and beyond what we have already tried thus far. Understand that it's easier said than done but there would be no point continuing with the same players on the field for the rest of the season if we won't be playing finals football. Tinker with the side for the rest of the year, make a bold decision or two then cull our off contract end of season dead wood. Anyone see Hayne gone, amongst others after 2018?

Hayne wont be gone...

We do need a clean out or Juniors to come in...

Why is our NSW Cup side full of part time players never to be in first grade?

i think the season is gone now

ok theoretically we could go on a winning streak and win 5 in a row but think about the massive for and against deficit we have
