Anyways, does anyone think we need an attacking dummy half? Reeds game isn’t evolving IMO. He had ample opportunity to run but his first instinct is to pass. Imagine if we had cook at that position. If we’re going to persist with him, we really need a quality 14.
He put in some nice kicks. Only great dummy halves have that skill. He's better than you're giving him.

The referee actually said to the Roosters that the reason it was a penalty was because he wasn't classed as in the act of scoring that far out.......weird rule.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy if those were binned too and that was the ruling. I just think that to do that you'd have to remove the rule about stripping in the act of scoring and make that illegal too, because you have to accept some margin for error with that rule.

And I actually like that rule because it gives defenders a last ditch option.

To be fair, the Storm haven't really been getting away with it the last few weeks...and it's glorious.

I do think the ten has become 7-8m lately, but Jenko has to at least make an effort. He stood like 4m offside right in front of the ref.

It was certainly a dumb f**king play and i guess a very valuable lesson.........also just how stupid our players are.......

In relation to the Storm, i think what i love more is the commentators seeing things that aren't there so they can protect the Storm. Like the one where Cam was told he can challenge and he didn't. Then they show the replay and i am pretty confident they would have lost the challenge and the commentators said it was the wrong call and he could have challenged.

There was another call that the refs got right later in the game and the commentators completely missed the knock on the Storm made to make the officials call correct.

One thing from tonight which i thought was odd was the incident where Lane went off for the HIA, it was a bunker review (where Anasta was trying to say Jennings eventually knocked it on when it was pretty clear he didn't form the first view) and Lane was hit high, they only showed that part once but i could swear it was a high shot, why no penalty to us?

Nope. Reed ran once, picked the perfect time and ran 15m. He's got a running game, he's just not compulsive and probably a little cautious as a young player. If it's not his strength I'd prefer him to play to his strengths and run when the moment is right. We've got other blokes who can run from acting half.

I do agree we should have a bench hooker, because 56 tackles will stop Reed from being as effective whatever he does in attack.
Those 56 tackles will also stop him being effective in defence.

I actually think the Roosters were arguing that they should have let Morris play on but my understanding is that it would have just been a line drop out had it actually been in the act of scoring, the advantage wasn't that the Roosters could have scored from the play, it just means that you can strip the ball regardless of numbers in the tackle without fear of a penalty or penalty try?

Um...I actually don't know for sure...

I think you can play on, if the situation allows? Like most of those happen with everyone on or near the ground rolling around so normally you'd be held, but if you pinch it clean I think you can play on? Not sure...

I’d take a dummy half with a good passing and kicking game over a runner any day of the week. Reed is the man.

Great effort boys but very dumb at times. We built no pressure in the first half. Errors and being run into touch where attempting to get six again was the play. No patience.
I thought our fitness was great except for a few Rheed and Moses attempts towards the end.
Lots of referee double standards tonight.
Highlights.
Sivo giving Teddy The Last Rites.
Drowns cover tackle on Keary.
Nrown busting his guts.
Mattos untiring effort.
Kaufusi.
Much improved defence.
Lowlights.
Waka.
Stone.
Mennings first half.
Lack of patience in the first half.
Rheeds exhaustion at the end. That one missed tackle changed the game and we never recovered.
Refereeing.
We will get them next time for sure. The Chooks are plenty sore right now.

He’s a good player imo, but even Matt Keating could put in good kicks. I just think we’ll be lethal if he had a great running game. We’re able to get quick play the balls but aren’t able to capitalise up the middle....

I'm happy with the performance despite the loss, its just proves tonight we are mentally strong this year and can take on any side. Theres a few minor areas we need to work on, in defence but in a way I'm glad the Roosters saw our weakness, thats what we can learn from.

Matthew also could put in a few stinkers. You could measure his service with an egg timer.

He used to run all the time in 20s. A few of the times he ran it was to the detriment to the team. I'd say he'd run more if we didn't have such good halves. May also come with more experience.

But you aren't answering the question? No one is denying they should go to the bin but you just never see it. Why do it tonight when the game is still in the balance?

Apply the rules all the time or not at all, not 1 in 1,000

Storm.player was 3 meters offside against Panthers when they where setting for a field goal and nothing.

The Roosters went up a gear before the sin binning, we don't have that gear.......that is my point.

We were good and the game was closer than i ever expected but we are still off the pace with them is all.

Lots to like from tonight and still a long way to go in the season and we could improve.

Its round 6. I'm not to concerned. We need to beat Canberra and not drop off.
We could of lost to Manly,Panthers and Dogs. All where close games. If we can make the top 4 we can win it.

Roosters are full strength. They won't get any better. Parra still need to gel and figure out their best 17.
Come finals if the Rooster are fit they'll be hard to beat. But I'd bank on one of the Morris boys going down as atleast a 50/50. And who knows one of the forwards or another key player may go down. It is a long season.

One thing is Kafusi has to stay in side. If he gets 10+ games he will be far better come finals.
I was hoping Stone come on strong. He is in a simmilar situation for me. Needs game time to improve. These 7-8 min bursts do nothing for development.

The difference Api Korisau made to the Panthers!
But Rheed is developing. He put in 3 gems of a kick and his defense is far better. If he did add even an average running game he could become elite.

Agree. You come into NRL and coach says keep it simple. I reckon he has told Stone the same but Stone isn't listening and trying to hard. Why BA perhaps got shits.
I'd like Nikauore to learn an offload.

Last night was a cracking game, we stuck it the best side in the League for 65mins, but we blinked first and they showed why they are the team to beat this year. Our scramble was amazing and we showed we can trouble them with some late offloads. But once again the little %ers and attention to detail let us down. But it's a long season and we are young side that will only get better.

The Roosters made four errors and completed at 90%, you don't lose completing at 90%, we capped that off by literally handing them back the ball on two of those errors. The Roosters won't play better.

There's some other shit there like Blake's D being shocking, and us getting frustrated and going a bit too sideways ( again ) but that can be fixed. We can compete.

What i liked most about that game was our turning up in defence, there's a lot of work being done there in the little efforts, and that's gonna keep us in the game no matter who we play.

The other thing i liked was that in the first half, despite having no ball, we f**king bashed the merkins, we let 'em know we were there to play.

Roosters right now are pretty clearly the bench mark, but I think we are close enough to 'em to not fear 'em come finals time, if we can just improve in those areas we were off we can beat them.

I don't think Raiders or The Storm are going to be real problems for us, sure won't be easy, but we have the defence to beat both those sides this year, and I reckon we will.
