Rebuilding Phase

Good post Tommy Coco. You certainly know your stuff.

In 2011, we had 6 wins all season. In 2012, we have had 3 (granted there are still 7 rounds to go). How exactly is this reBUILDing?? Kearney and his crew were touted as the next big thing - but needed 5 years to get it right. At what point, in this so called 5 year plan, do we actually start winning consistently? Last year, we were told it would happen this year. Now, the Kearney brigade tell us it will be next year.

I am not one of those people who expects instant success. I know anything of worth takes time but someone please explain to me how I am supposed to have ANY confidence in Stephen Kearney? NO other club would have put up with this for this long and, IMO, our administration's decision to stick with this bloke is nothing short of a 200-1 gamble. How often do they come off?

Surely Kearney will be gone before end of the year WOE, it'd just be a matter of timing?

No point sacking him until there's someone else (with a bit more experience/better record) lined up. And perhaps no point letting the guy escape without this wooden spoon sitting squarely on his coaching resume with no excuses.

But I'd be very disappointed (and surprised) if the Board/CEO aren't doing the hard yards right now in lining up potential 2013 coaches, so that the club can be ready to move forward to a new future as soon as the last ball is kicked in round 26. So long as that is happening behind the scenes now, then I'm happy to wait for the formal announcement whenever it comes.

Kearney is building winning culture. Do do that under the 5 year plan, you need to come last for 3 years in a row.

To get a winning culture, you first need to feel the pain. If need be, he'll make us come last for a 4th year just to teach the troops a valuable life lesson. Then watch us go.

That's the thing Bartman. Even if this is happening behind the scenes, do you really have confidence in the club making the right decision? The last decision they made in regards to coaching was inspired.

As far as their next coaching decision goes, it seems to me that this current administration has real issues with anything or anybody who has links to the previous one. IMO, that would rule someone like JT out. It is also my opinion (through observation) that they meddle too much in the coach's affairs. That would rule out Ricky Stuart - who would not stand for any of that. What coach in their right mind would want to step into this powder keg??

Then you have the upcoming elections. What happens if this mob gets voted out? You have a similar situation to the Daniel Anderson scenario. A new coach hired by the previous administration and then round and round we go again.

I said at the end of the 2010 season that I feared we were heading back to the dark old days of the late 80's/early 90's. It seems to me we may already be there. :(

the irony is that a coach who would insist on total control of the team and tell the board to piss off if they interfered is the last person who would get hired but they are exactly what we need

maybe that is why the board wanted to sign up a rookie coach so they could turn him into their puppet and run the team behind the scenes?

All of the coaches people are suggesting are under contract, or just as shit, imo.

Come on mate. That's just wild conspiracy theory stuff... ;-)

In all seriousness, who knows anymore? It is a sad state of affairs. I applaud those who claim they can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am sure it is there, somewhere. I just can't see it myself right now.

Go the Eels!

That's the scary thing. There's not much out there to choose from. Who's the next big thing - rookie wise - from the Melbourne Storm?

This is why I can't agree with the "anyone would be better surely" type of arguement. If we have to wait another 12 months to get the right man/woman for the job, then we may as well save the cash of a payout.

would we go any better if we punted kearney right now and played under anderson or arthurs for the rest of the year?
you have to admit we couldn't go much worse

Then we'll finish 11th in the fifth year and the Kearney lovers will praise him for leaving the club in a better position compared to when he took over.

We could go 100% minus our current winning % better, and we could go worse by the difference between our current winning % and zero.

WOULD we go any better? Who knows.

We could go worse, it would cost us money, and may or may not affect the future of the club, so no, I don't have to admit anything.

Your posts are very emotional, are you pregnant?

Luke Burt has been offered a job at the Eels next year when be retires. For all his faults as a player he has a smart footy brain. If the club want to save money just get Burt to coach the side part time as one of his duties in his new role (whatever that is)

I would get Burt to teach the outside backs how to defuse bombs and take dummy half runs.

They already have 'Thirty with Burty' for that. That's if our players have an attention span that lasts up to 30 seconds.

Luke Burt should serve pots of tea to old moles playing king of the nile and have celebrity spins for them.
