Redcliffe put their hand up

Hell must have started an ice age last year. COVID-19, expansion and the AwFuL and NRL Grand Finals in Brisbane.

On a serious note, how long do the Dolphins stay at Lang Park before moving to a purpose built stadium in Moreton Bay?

Moreton Bay is a massive growth area and traffic congestion is going to get worse over the next 30 years.

Unless they eventually move to the Sunny Coast?

Done deal, just waiting to hear which bid got up, but as every media post had said dolphins seems to have the nose in front, i assume that a meeting 2mrw with the press and bid will nut out the name, coach etc

Until the Qlnd govt spends $250mill building them an NRL standard stadium I suppose. Looking geographically, and admittedly Ive never been to that area, the big conern is if it is in reccliffe it looks very similar in its isolation the rest of the region as Manly does to the Northern suburbs of Sydney. We dont want or need another Manly drawing sub 10k crowds!

Apparently the expansion committee has to meet again now they have confirmed its happening, then put its recommendation to the full ARLC who have to endorse it. Then the bids will be notified, probably same day as media release is made. Aiming for next 2 weeks according to reports.

That's why I would like to see Easts and Redcliffe come together to become the East Coast Dolphins. It will give them a fanbase from Logan, Redlands, bayside suburbs of Brisbane and Moreton Bay. I can see a team with this range averaging 35k crowds after 10 years if it's successful and well marketed.

From what I gather, announcement may be early next week. Could be a bit of a crunch to nail down the final details AND do a press conference... although there's probably an appeal to making the announcement Friday afternoon then celebrating to start the weekend.

I usually like a more defined name, but am actually warming to the Sunshine State Dolphins name.

For a few reasons:
- Brisbane is taken. I am not a fan of two teams with the same location name. Plus it doesn't represent the Sunshine Coast which is arguably part of the bid.
- Rivercity is just shit. What is that? There are lots of river cities. Nothing special.
- Redcliffe while historic, does seem a bit limiting. Who knows it could become a success like Fremantle or Port Adelaide in AFL, but we run the risk of it becoming Manly.
- Moreton Bay is decent as encompassing Redcliffe and Sunshine Coast but doesn't offer much to the wider Brisbane population.
- South Qld would be good but has the stigma of being associated with the failed Crushers.
- Sunshine State has just a good vibe. Obvious links to Sunshine Coast, applicable to Redcliffe and wider Brisbane, goes with the sunny 'Dolphin' theme, and takes a lead from a successful team in Golden State.

Sunshine State? No........ you're using the colloquial term for the whole of QLD, the team isn't representing the whole of QLD. I don't mind Moreton/Bay but they'll go for North Brisbane.

They're gonna have a challenging time trying to lose the Redcliffe stigma that's associated not only with the team itself but the suburb. Redcliffe has always been seen as a bit of a lower socio economic area (think Blacktown by the sea) but it has started to gentrify (I was up there last weekend and you can see the old houses on the bigger blocks started to get knocked down and apartments and more modern homes are going in their place) so callling them Redcliffe and playing a few games out of the Sunny Coast I can see the locals up there turning their noses up a bit at supporting a team from a 'low brow' region.

Good on them for getting in, I'll at least get another NQ game in Brissy to attend. I don't think all 3 bids really tick all the boxes. The Jets bid if they had more cash behind them I think would have been just as good if not better than the Redcliffe bid. I live near Springfield and the growth out here is insane but understand why they haven't gone with the bid, I mean the Jets don't even have a proper leagues club (their leaguesy is a pub ffs.)

North Brisbane will alienate sunshine coast.
West Coast eagles exist, Houston Texans. As somebody mentioned Golden State warriors is exactly the same.

Have been looking at property in Redcliffe, had no idea how many Fibro houses there was lol some of them seem like ex government houses as well. The Dolphins set up is impressive though, huge leagues club, fitness and aquatic centre and a strip of shops including Coles as a tenant.

Don't know why people keep bringing up the Golden State Warriors, they were the San Francisco Warriors and just changed. They also almost exclusively market themselves as The Warriors.

Sunshine State is dumb, they're not a rep side. East Coat Dolphins is passable.

North Brisbane Dolphins
Northside Dolphins
Bayside Dolphins
North-East Dolphins
Sunshine-Moreton/Moreton-Sunshine Dolphins
Splishy Splashy Dolphins
Coastal Dolphins
Greater Brisbane
South-East Dolphins
South Queensland Dolphins.
