I definitely think that sports journalism in Australia has all of the airy fairy he said, she said crap as overseas, but without the narket size to prompt some serious analysis.

I really enjoy Jason Taylors "Chalkboard" in the Sydney Morning Herald, but apart from that it's all stats. Stats are fine but they normally just present them without exploring them a little further.

Things that could be looked at are forwards making big metres off the back of someones fast play the ball, where players moved during the game and why, and how this affected the outcome.

Most of you probably don't like soccer, but have a look at this to see what you could be reading.

Most people would be surprised what players will talk about if journos aren't around. I had a chat to the
Wolfman at a Peachey inspired schoolboy carnival at Dubbo and he said things that a journo would
purposely misconstrue. Ordinary things that ordinary blokes talk about.

That Monaghan thing with the dog was just horseplay similar to which you'd see at a hundred such gatherings
each weekend. He was dumb because he knew if journos got hold of something like that he would be and was crucified.
The wankers did Monaghan a favour. He's a favourite in England and is going great guns there.

Todd Carney is the perfect example of an everyday larrikan, no different to thousands of us . . . other than
he is an exceptional footballer. He's never had a coach anywhere near good enough to get the best out of him.
The journos would have you believe he's not normal because it sells newspapers. If Flanagan gets him into SOO
what are they going to say then. He's a changed man? Bullshit. He's done nothing different other than find a coach
who asks only the possible.

I like watching journos parade around as though they have inside knowledge when all along they are the last person
a player wants to talk to and when they do it's just lip service.

Not sure whether there's something in the water in Victoria or it's in the preparation
but Bellamy's top blokes seem impervious to serious setbacks.

In those three you have a professional approach to footy that is all too rare in the NRL. My suspicion is that they are the kind of guys that count every calorie they take into their body, and thus maintain their health very well.

I can see Cooper Cronk now, at dinner time munching on a bowl of broccoli and grilled fish while most footy players are eating pizza.

My point is that certain players while under the influence of the latest in physiology at their clubs, can look after their bodies very well themselves and they reap the benefits by suffering fewer injuries.

If you were in my '83 - '85 pub team you would know that the antics Carney, Monaghan, Miles and co got up to
were but child's play. There was a photo on the wall of the pub after our gf winning away trip showing many of
the players lined up naked. No faces, just the waste down . . . had many of the local girls arguing who was who.

Embarrassing if they were pointing at you saying, I remember that one, don't bother it's a dud

Not too many duds bothered lining up for the shoot but it did cause friction when the women didn't
take note of who the other women in the room were when showing recognition of apendages.
Once the publican realised what the fuss was about the one night stand for the photo was over which was a good thing.

Lot of fuss this morning about SOO being held in Melbourne. Imo Origin should be played in three States every year.
Yes I know at the moment it's unfair because much of the nucleus of Qld comes from the Storm but is that always going to be the rule.

Is everyone satisfied now that the best juniors come from Qld and have we given up that there will be a resurgence from NSW.
Hopefully soon there will be more great coaches in NSW teams which should create an adequate supply of players worthy of playing Origin.
Flanagan and Maguire may produce without having to use Qld juniors and may even reconstruct the careers of players passed over.

Regardless of what many think juniors are not that naive they won't be attracted to great coaching. NSW juniors need to be influenced
by great coaches. Again I say Pearce would have been a far better player had he been coached properly. What does this have to do
with a game in Melbourne. Bit expensive to take a family to two games and one day the Mexicans will turn up in the hope of a
champion NSW team getting beaten

Had to have a laugh here. Similar to hundreds of gatherings? Not sure what you, or your fellow dingo scratchers across the Tasman get up to but I've never seen anything of the ilk at any function I was at.

And rubbish they did him a favour. He wanted to play Origin for NSW and for his country, and win a prem in Canberra. He was forced to go overseas because he simulated a dog licking his bone, the media got it and of course they ran with it.

Agreed on your Carney points, however.

Aint no party like a Popeye party! Last Saturday we enjoyed the company of a giant anteater! I'm not going to tell you what we did with it, but I will say it has one of the longest tongues in the animal kingdom

Can't help it if you've had a sheltered life but you are lucky to not have seen some of the things I've seen.
Entirely my fault that I've been in places to see such things but it does give me an insight into what is or is
not insignificant on the list of abhorrent behaviour.

Of course they did him a favour. He clearly had passed his used by date in Australia long before his minor
indescretion and he was clearly sliding out backwards. After his refurbishing in England there might even
be a season here left in him for a decent coach, say Flanagan

I bet you do other really tough things like drive around during the day with your arm hanging down the side
of your car or at night driving around with your driving lights on which is illegal when there is oncoming traffic.
Ever thought about getting a tattoo of 'LOl@Soufs' or 'f**kwit' on your forehead so people can tell what you
are when you're walking . . . save time asking you anything

Interesting to read where Pearce will probably pass on being mentored by a decent coach at the Dragons.
He will take his chances that Smith will be replaced or even that he will be able to continue in SOO without
fine tuning from a worthy coach. All because of his infatuation with Nick Politis. The same infatuation Fittler
had when big money was offered to lure him from Bondi. Love is more important than money even if sacrifices
have to be made to stay under the cap. Melbourne players could learn a lot from Pearce

While it seems that Carney has sorted his issues out, which is great, the shit he was getting up to did not make him a larrikin.

It made him an A grade f*ckwit and a criminal. High speed police chases while drunk is larrikin behaviour is it? Pissing all over blokes in pub toilets is larrikin behaviour is it?

Not trying to drag out his past to belittle the bloke, but that comment of him being a larrikin for shit like that is stupid.

Good luck to him. I hope he kills it for the rest of his carreer, but it doesn't change his past.

Well I'm not one to criticise. I tended to thump people not piss on them and I never got caught eluding the police.
Not saying I never had them looking for me back in the days everyone drove around the Cross pissed but I was
always the elected get home driver and a man's gotta do what is necessary.

Well regardless of your escapades back in the 70's, pissing on blokes and driving off from the cops drunk is not larrikin behaviour. Its f*ckwit criminal behaviour.

Different time and place when you were doing your thing. And getting into a blue on the grog is a bit different to standing there and pissing all over someone.

Sandow is not the only player that needs a reality check. Not sure what Kearney was expected to do with a bloke
who was little more than a passenger. Hayne can't be much of a listener when he says the coach wanted a regimented
approach and other players say that's not right.

Stands to reason if a team can become so embarrassed with themselves for 65 minutes and have a blinder for the last
15 the question must be asked who's to blame. Most of the players at the Eels are not what you'd call elite and to go
great for 15 then drop their bundle is par for the course. Not the other way round.

Hayne needs a weekend at Wenty and the next time he plays for the Eels he should be told to come out with all guns
blazing or it's back to Wenty. Some players in the game think the team is there for their benefit and if the rest are not
performing why should they. Time for the dog to catch it's tail

Your argument is a good one and I guess I was only having a nasty fit because what happens off the field
is too often made money from by people from the back page when the front page is where it belongs.

Heaven help this cousin of Australia's most wanted. He won't want to have a bad day on the paddock and
abuse a Penrith policeman at a breath test . . . even if Gus wants to be his godfather.

Tonight we saw the Cowboy's 'no excuse' side on the paddock and only match fitness is necessary for them to
at least match the Bronco forward pack. Probably won't happen but Ricky needs to get as many of these Cowboy
forwards in the NSW side with Glen Stewart and Gallen as he can.

Thurston looks to have played his last game in the #7 for anyone and the NQ spine looks very settled with only
Payne a bit fragile but his position is well covered. Thurston made the most of Prior's stupidity but Hornby's effort
was average. Liked the way the Cowboys held their nerve when down a couple of stars towards the end and the
Dragons won't go away with their tails between their legs.

All the NQ side need do now is keep this team on the paddock for the rest of the year. Gee that was easy to type
