"Being continually run over by Inglis didn't stop him trying
his heart out and Souths didn't earn the right to spoil his night."
Always a good read, Popeye, but I'm struggling to see where you're coming from with this one.
If you read my opinion on how Pearce should try and stop Inglis, you'll understand that all he can do is
bring Greg down. If he continually tries to tackle above the pubic hairs all that is going to happen is the
bloke will become demoralized when he gets palmed off. Pearce had a fine game except when he was
asked to do the impossible even for a bloke twice his size. I don't know of any player who could stop
Inglis getting the ball away one on one.
As far as Souths earning the right to spoil his night what I meant is that Pearce had done enough, certainly
more than his detractors would ever give him credit for, and the Rabbitohs didn't deserve to pull themselves out of a hat.
Just on Mortimer again, if you put Steve in the middle of the field, gave Inglis a ball at one end and told him
to put it down at the other end 99 times out of 100 he wouldn't make it. Mortimer would never concern himself
with preventing Inglis passing the ball but he would make sure his ankles were conjoined.
