Agree to disagree...McInnes can play 80..but noticeably Fades out...( although better so far this year )...

Point being Mary promised Robson a Start via bench and never delivered....Agree could bring Robson on and put McInnes in the Middle....

Most disappointing thing is we never gave Robson a go.... how can you then make a decision between McInnes and Robson down the track ?

There is more to come....I am just about over it....don't think I can take any more of the Nepotism and lowering of the bar in terms of success that our Board trots out.........
Take it easy Smarty. TBH all this talk up of Robson. He has not played enough 1st grade to prove anything (now this is not about should of he been given a go I believe he should of) so I will back the club on this one for the monent until I see different whether we are letting a real superstar go for the money he can get at the Cowboys. I love Mcinnes in our side and he is the backbone of our middle! He is not Cam Smith or Cook but I love him.
I have watched enough NSW Cup over the past 2 years and YES Robson stands up, but the opposition, speed and defense is a world apart to 1 st grade. There in lies another problem with the NRL but wont get on the soap box on that issue due to holidays looming.
If he becomes the next Cameron Smith.or Damien Cook then I promise on here to delete this post.
But Lomax if we lose him..boy oh boy.....even know he is signed for the next year and a half...his manager is working behind the scenes it seems!

McGregor carries a back on the bench. That is a wasted bench position.

McInnes fades as the season progresses because he plays 80 mins every week. You give Robson some time not only does it help McInnes... shit maybe Robson turns out to be a crucial player who must be kept. Look at the Storm with Brandon Smith

This departure is 100% on McGregor
Yep he doesn't even know his name

Thanks mate.

Just listening to it, Millward said he was pencilled in for 18/19. He does qualify it by saying that he has got to make it though. He also said that Garrick was pencilled in to replace Nighty. I personally don't take those comments as a guarantee or a promise. I take it as part of the pathways process and identifying the best of the players coming through. Having said that, it comes down to Mary making the choice. And for whatever reason, he chose not to give him much of a chance.

Things obviously change and I'm thinking part of the issue now is that McInness is going to be the next captain - keeping him on the field for the full 80 is preferential.

Having said all that, if this eventuates, good luck to him.

As I stated there is more to this...anyway...time to move on.

Hey 86..dont worry about me I aint easy to offend and never took your comments that way anyway. I just thought you needed to chill as you sound hot under the collar abou something that you not telling us.
And I just think..well its done and it may be a big loss and mistake and it may not.
I await and I watch..and then I will pass judgment.
But It just makes me think they are going to sign some young hooker from elsewhere. You dont carry 1 good hooker in your Top 30.

86 put it this way. You cant carry 2 top 1st grade hookers if Robson ends up tht

What other young hooker would you sign ? He is Australian under 20's REP......and to think we could have at least given him a run...........

I have my eye on 1 of the Shark brothers TBH and Fainu from Manly (watching him closely on Sat night).
I like what I see.

And this is another problem. The difference between Under 20's and reggies and even NRL is getting further apart.
We are too quick to put the wraps on thse young kids that represent without ever playing NRL and expect them to step up and perform. A lot dont or cant.
Look at Cronulla's centre Xerri, showed Dugan the 800K whinger (oops I mean winger) how to play centre and he is 18. Now he is a natural (and look at the size of him) and adapted to 1st grade well but just needs to learn a few things but he will!.
Cronulla had debuted a few good young blokes this year due to injury etc, but they have been in their system for a few years in lower grades except for Xerri who is one out of the box.
Our pathways cant seem to find that one out of the box at a tender age can play 1st grade. Now thats a Dragons eye for talent problem. You dont develop them they are just born ready for 1st grade a that age if they are to be a star!.
I'll be interested to see how this fullback goes from Mudgee coming next year at 18.

Not sure why anyone thinks getting 20 or 30 at hooker off the bench would have changed anything here.

McInnes is an 80 minute hooker. Hooker rotations are essentially a wasted bench position.

Robson knows he himself has the potential to be an 80 minute hooker. He can't possibly do 80 minutes behind one of the better hookers in the NRL so obviously for his career he'll look elsewhere.

Granville is on the outer so Robson prime position at locking a spot down for himself.

Dragons get McInnes 80 mins
Robson gets a shot at Cowboys 80 mins

There are no losers here. Good luck again to him!
Have you considered injury to McInnes or absence due to rep duties or a change of pace/style to win the last 20min of a game or fatigue to McInnes in your thoughts on this.

Robson would not have attracted big dollars and that is the benefit of holding onto our juniors once they become first grade ready. Replacing McInnes with Hunt is a real waste of talent, weakens our defence and disrupts our halves combination.

The problem here is assuming Robson would even want to stay to be injury backup, or to get anything less than 80 mins.

He likely, like all hookers, has 80 minute aspirations. It would have been great to have him on hand for those situations you describe, but at the end of the day it's asking a lot of him to turn down opportunities elsewhere just to be in limbo here

We won in 2015. He was a strong contributor but he didn't have the fundamentals of being a hooker (he was originally a fullback) in his game then and he hasn't improved those parts of his game since. He was always been poor at making decisions and passing the ball accurately. Even in the grand final his passing was all over the place. This was masked in his good years as he was great at running the ball and his positives outweighed his negatives.

Now he is a tackle bot who can't pass and doesn't run much and his weaknesses are really being highlighted. Baptiste played an average game last week and the difference in service between him and Granville was like night and day.
Agree i think he was horrible in the GF, passing all over the place, remember watching the game and thinking he is trying to lose this match, thought he was a much better player but have seen no improvement in him for the last 4-5 years, Robson is a great pick up, he MAY haunt us like Thurston haunts the Bullgrub supporters...

At this time in his development and with McInnes ahead of him, I'm sure Robson was not insisting on 80min each week, rather I feel certain he would have been happy to be in the hooker rotation playing a similar role to that of Dean Young when we last won a premiership in 2010.

Robson if off to the Cowboys and I am sure he will not be their 80min first grade hooker. Rather I believe that within a short period of time, he will perform very well in their hooker rotation.

Right now McInnes is playing at his very best however, fortunately he is playing un-injured without fatigue and always sitting behind Cook in the SOO stakes. When we do need a replacement for McInnes, the team will perform at a lessor standard, especially if Mary uses Hunt at hooker.

100%

Granville is 30 years old and fading fast on a terrible Cows team. McInnes is 25, on the cusp of Origin last year and has just been given the captaincy..

Robson wants to be a starting hooker, no brainer to go to the Cows.

The only way he would have stayed is if he beat out McInnes for the starting job which I thought could have been a possibility. Wasn’t there talk of McInnes going to Parra due to the Robson hype??

Anyway, Cam has been outstanding recently and he saw off the challenge.

I've been as enthusiastic about Robson as most people on the forum but Liccha (correct spelling?) was apparently going to be a superstar as well.

Robson did concern me a little about how big he looks. Like he could almost play lock and he is almost certainly going to get still bigger.

Maybe he is going to come back and burn us but for the moment, I can't be too critical of recruitment.

For whatever reason?

The reason is that he is a stubborn, self-focused, short-sighted, narrow-minded moron not remotely deserving of an authority position at our club.

The reason is because he chooses to persist with a bench make up that’s ignored by all successful systems, and ignored a bench make up used by successful systems.

Really, he morons claiming that McInnes is a full-season, 80 minute hooker are likely the same clowns who labeled Rein as an 80 minute hooker. Physically, yes it happens. But in reality, it’s not what’s best for the team. McInnes has proven to wear out over the course of a season every year since he’s been playing 80 minutes. His defensive output in terms of quality and quantity is far above the other ‘80 minute hookers’ mentioned - all bar 1 of whom has a fairly regular reprieve from a backup hooker.

Yes, it’s not the end of the world and there’s a chance that Robson is really no good, but really, there’s no positive spin on this. We lose one of the most promising juniors we have, into whom we’ve put years of development, with zero upgrade or compensation and without finding out whether or not he will make it big if first grade, and fault lies solely with an incompetent coach. Those happy with it are probably the same ones who are happy with Lomax playing as a middle forward and see a 7th place finish as ‘successful’.

I doubt anyone is happy with this.

Just an unfortunate situation where he has a very good player in front of him. Even if Mary played him on the bench, he would be stuck there for the foreseeable future unless McInnes lost form.

He has a chance to start at the Cows and make an impact. A starting hooker has twice the value. He’s been hyped up by the Kangaroos coach and others so doubt he would have been happy being a becnhie.

The Lichaa comparison is a good one, I think the only way we could have kept him is if we shipped off McInnes like the Dogs got rid of Ennis.

And we all know how that went.
