Ref Watch 2014 (aka the Skeepe Thread)

Hard to deny the refs more or less gave the game to Manly early on when you consider the psychological impact of feeling like you're playing against 15 men. But the Tigers dropped an awful lot of ball...

I think they were deflated by the events of the first few minutes and never recovered, sure enough, but a good side dusts itself off and reverts to the game plan, rather than dwelling on perceived poor decisions.
Who said the Tigers were a good team? They aren't as good as Manly, not even close. Which is what makes these decisions even worse. A team with a slim hope at winning all but had that hope removed entirely in the first 10 minutes.

No team should have to overcome these things. Even if it's possible, a team should not be in the position in the first place.

You said something like that last week too.

While Wests got a couple of poor calls, they were also nowhere near good enough to match the opposition on the night. Blaming the refs is fine when you lose by 2 but not when you lose by 32.

Man I hate these comments.
If that try is awarded a try (which it should have) we see a totally different ball game.
And this is without mentioning any of the other questionable calls that went Manlys way.

The refereeing (including the video ref) last night was an A-grade disgrace.

But we won't hear from them until next week, when they make another costly error.

Ref's tonight done the opposite, handing a non try to Broncos when a video ref denies it. thankfully Panthers hung on to win, but it nearly cost them the game.

Just saw the Manly press conference after the Tigers game.
Toovey and Lyon were actually complaining about refereeing inconsistencies.
f**k me dead. Just f**k me dead.
What a pair of miserable merkins.

I noticed with interest that both Tony Williams and Michael Ennis both dropped numerous F Bombs at the referee last night but neither were sent to the bin............:roll:

Referees are deadset killing the game at the moment with their inconsistencies and their agendas towards certain teams.

The Stanley try was a no try, ref gave it No Try on the field and there was f**k all evidence to overturn it. The Lafai one should of been a try though could of been a different game 6-6 at half time. Momentum and all that shit.

Penrith injuries let the Dogs come home . . . momentum happens in every direction

I wish the video refs would just check on the things the on field ref requests. If he says check grounding, just check grounding. Don't bother with off side, obstruction or anything else.

And don't have 37 looks when you only need 1 or 2. Agree with everything you say. I hate when they check obstruction whatever 15 times and then go through to the grounding which was never in doubt. Total waste

I think its fair to say that the men in pink stink. Some with tinfoil hats will suggest they are cheating, others will say they are just inconsistent. Others will say they're blind merkins who should be taken out the back and shot.

On the other side of the coin they have the toughest job in the game and obviously need assistance to improve.

So what are the solutions? A complete review of the rules to take away grey areas? A 'war' room for all video referrals? Go back to one ref? A process to bring more ex players into the ranks? Ask Mitsubishi industries to construct a Refbot?

Discuss.

Scrap the two referee system - too much confusion and inconsistency between the two referees.

Get ex-players out of the video referees box.

Get rid of the quick tap on penalties and 40/20s. Makes the game look amateur hour.

Only allow video referee to review that portion of play that is requested by the on-field referee.

Accept that referees can make mistakes and compensate by introducing the captain's challenge rule to NRL.
