Actually Kearney managed 1 more win than the great man, and didn't alienate half the squad in the process.

A reincarnation of Jack Gibson in his pomp wouldn't have avoided the spoon for you guys this year. Shittest squad I've seen in my time watching footy, and a fair portion of blame must be attributed to Kearney for some absolutely shocking recruitment decisions.

I'm starting to think some of you Eels fan genuinely believe you're less of a rabble than you actually are.

I think you misunderstood.

My point was how some Eels fans were saying how much better Stuart was than Kearney - how Sticky was a massive upgrade, regardless of the roster. And yet, he delivered us a wooden spoon just as Kearney did.

Our roster is diabolical, and I don't hold it against Sticky that he kept the spoon at Parramatta. But his results this year can't be taken to mean he's that far ahead of Kearney.

In my opinion, bad as Kearney was, we at least played with more heart and at times looked like a football team (albeit a park footy team).

Stuart was up and down all season - he really wasn't 100% committed to this job, and the blame for that's got to be shared by our board (for having hired a guy who wasn't 100% committed) and Sticky himself (for joining if he wasn't into it).

Its just fascinating the obsession eels fans have with the guy, if it were me, i'd just be happy to be done with him... and i kind of have some experience, i can tell you i didnt spend months on end posting furiously in Penrith forums about how bad Matt Elliott was, i probably made 3-4 posts and quietly moved on with my life content that that clown wasnt coaching my football squad.

Not Eels fans, certain not Loudy, who streams in here frothing at the mouth ready to launch another "scathing" attack on the "new Jack Gibson"

I think his leaving the Eels was best for everyone. Good luck to him.

I was angry at him at first for leaving, but once I calmed down, I realised I can't get mad at a guy who did nothing wrong. Our incompetent board members put that get out clause in his contract.

I've never rated the guy, but I think he will succeed at the Raiders - he is committed to them, and with their roster, he should be able to extract something from the side.

The thing is i understand being angry at him. I would be if he did that to my club, but as you point out, at some point you've got to ask who this absurd situation was allowed to play out and the answer is it was allowed to play out because the Parramatta board put in the single most absurd get out clause i have ever heard in my life. Next level incompetence.

His results weren't great, they were awful in fact. His history isnt great either. And Parramatta got out of a coach, whom apparently everyone wanted gone anyway, without having to pay him a dollar more. That's a great result, you should be cheering from the roof tops, except the likes of Loudy and Ron arent, they just keep coming in here, totally steamed and ready to explode. Its hilarious

I dont shy away from the fact im not a fan of his as a coach. He would not have been my choice. But i dont control that and i never will, so all you can do is hope that finally being back at the club he was destined to coach will spark something for him.

Certainly he deserves criticism for his parra stint because it was pretty clear in hindsight he was never in it for the long haul, but then again he's done a lot of good there, he cleaned out the worst roster the NRL has seen in modern history. It's dirty work and he did it and had the good graces to leave to let someone else to rebuild. I can bet my last dollar B.Arthur is sitting at home tonight thankfully Stuart cleaned it out so he didnt have to. His job is now easier for having Stuart there.

We'll see if Stuart-Raiders is the right place, right time scenario. So far, so good, early doors but as ive said, you get a clean slate and whilst i have my concerns, so far i cant fault him. The Raiders have been rubbish for years, arguably since he left the club, it's up to him to fix it and maybe there is something poetic in that that he's here to clean up the mess created since his departure. He is certainly passionate about the club.

But as a Parramatta fan, i just can not understand the continued obsession. It's truly baffling. All ive read is about how much better the eels are without him, how much better the coaching structures are, the board is more unified etc.

Raiders got their man, and it remains to be seen how that pans out.
Eels got their man, and it remains to be seen how that pans out.

Shouldnt the Eels just be content with that?
Apparently not.

I agree with you.

And Stuart did do some good things - he moved on some dead wood and managed to attract some quality players to boost our squad.

I don't get the obsession, either - he's gone from our club. Let it go. Support the new coach.

But Eels fans are a fickle bunch at the best of times.

to be fair, so are most raiders fans
frankly most are pro stuart simply because he hasn't got the surname "Furner" and would have fully endorsed and backed to the hills anyone who fitted that description.
Im actually one of few who isnt all in on Sticky.

We'll see how it all winds up, both clubs should be doing much better than they have been recently. We'll see how they both go after administrative and coaching changes.

It's a cliche, but it's true - only way is up for both clubs.

Maybe in the short term for the raiders.

History tells us more than likely things will fall apart in the medium term at the raiders.

His antics will inevitably divide the player group. And I expect he may even loose the plot more than normal coaching his former team and all.

as a football fan you never stop supporting your team, with that comes hope. sue us for previously believing a new coach will help us in dire times.

Poor R69! Firstly, having a log in with a number he'll never experience, secondly, getting stuck with Sticky (excuse the pun) after giving him a bollocking earlier in this thread.... Niiiiiiiiiiice.
:lol: Yeah, he's desperately trying to create the diversion too!

Its just fascinating the obsession eels fans have with the guy,
You are the one obsessed. How many diferent Ricky Stuart threads do you have to start, hijack or bump????

if it were me,
You'd be stalking him. If I hear of the AFB nabbing someone for masturbating outside his bedroom window, it's either Bile Duct, Raiders Premiers or you.

BTW, Hows the family reasons clause treating you guys???????

No, not the forum members. Who cares what they think?

I'm talking about my family, friends and customers - all Eels fans and all unable to let things go.

You guys crazy.
Sticky will get the raiders to the semis next year, but it will have nothing to do with him.
It's part of their one year in, one year out process. 2014 is their year for being IN the eight.

They also have the low expectations, high acheivements in their favour. In years where the Raiders are highly rated they underperform and miss the 8.
