It was announced over the PA that jack Gibson had died and thus we had the silence, the people yelling out and the people heard yelling shut the f**k up were both very disrespectful

I got a message from my mate during the centenary team being paraded that gibson and died so it felt bad when they said Jack Gibson couldnt be with us tonight when announcing him as coach of the century, considering the news mustnt have filterred through by then.

RIP Jack
I was there.
I didnt hear it
Dont listen to ground announcers.
Maybe they too didnt know?

He gave great services to every club he coached, including NSW in 1989 and 1990, to which they won a great series in 1990.

I remember at the time Jack picked a squad of young "unknowns" for NSW, Mark Geyer, John Cartwright, Laurie Daley, Glen Lazarus etc. Everyone laughed and said he had lost it, and these numpties would never last. They got whitewashed in the first series but basically he set up the NSW team to dominate Origin for the next decade, all the NSW coaches that came after him for the next 10 years owe him a great debt.

its a pity that jack didn't have a lot to do with rl in his later years

RIP

In 2002 when the Roosters won the comp at the club that year he presented the Jack Gibson medal for player of the year and he was shaking and looked pooor then, it is a credit to the man he hung on for so long.

I started coaching a different sport (soccer) in 1992 and I was cocky (confident) one night and asked him for advise. He gave me some.

I will never forget it. "treat kids as kids because that is what they are"

RIP Jack. Easts fans will never forget you.

He just couldnt mate. He would have loved to though :) His family always made sure he watched the game. There wasnt alot anyone could do. Awareness of certain diseases should be more widely known, but Parkinsons and Alzeimhers dont seem to be fashionable. f**k the constant donations to the Children's Hospital, maybe if we all donated to the bigger hospitals, ALOT more could be done for everyone.

I am sure Harry did.

As an Easts fan we have lost tonight one of the greatest people in the history of our club. I hope our boys do Jack justice tomorrow.

Jack Gibson pure and simple was rugby league and should be remembered as that for a long time.

A true ambassador for the game. He played the game with integrity and courage, and took the game to new levels in his coaching.

While most of us had never had the privlege of meeting the man, we have all been touched by his greatness and influence in our teams that we support. His tactics and mindsets have revolutionised the game. Lest we forget the man that changed the game of Rugby League forever.

Rest in Piece Jack, the world of Rugby League and in general, is a poorer place without you in it.

Wow..you are a smart one for not being able to put that together...

I guess you missed this a bit further.

....and I couldnt work out why the minutes silence was being held, none in our group had heard the news, it was quite confusing......

More shock that someone of his stature, and was so closely involved to the evening (theyd just finished parading the TOtC) thought there mustve been some mistake. But not having heard the news...as I said, confusing and shocking.
Some people.......just cant help themselves being a smartarse...this isnt the thread for thisgarbage.

what a great quote. i love how the man could take league to a higher level, drawing analogies to life. what a brilliant man, he rose beyond the cliche, simplified the complicated. you'd never hear him mutter 'it was a game of two halves'. its a pity the game has gone back in this respect

ovp, appreciate that mate. knew he was ill, i guess its just sad that he wasn't phsyically able to contribute all the way up to his final day, as league was his game

cheers

Defintley was Kiwis, who were being disrespectful.

Started by a group somewhere behind were I was sitting, One yeleld out "Go the KIWIS, then the group of em in front started cheering and whistling. Then to be fair some aussie bloke screams out "Show some f**king respect!" which did nothing but make the kiwis retort back to him.

Anywho, very sad news to hear the great man is gone. ONly found out when the min silence was announced and I heard it loud and clear.
