Just heard the news a few minutes before kick off, then they announced it on the PA at the ground. Very sad news indeed.

He gave great services to every club he coached, including NSW in 1989 and 1990, to which they won a great series in 1990.

He would be most remembered for taking Easts in a dominant era in the mid 70s, and did the same for Parramatta in the early 80s.

I speak on behalf of most Parramatta fans, although I wasnt born in the "Gibson Era", but winning 3 consecutive premierships under the limited tackle rule was really amazing acheivement.

He was great for us, and will always be Parramatta's greatest coach.

RIP Jack.

There were blokes in front of us who called out during the silence. Pretty bloody ordinary, theyve got no respect and shouldve been thrown out.:x

I had the priviledge of being at the 81 GF as a kid and will never forget it, nor will I forget Jacks call of "Ding Dong the witch is dead" The man was pure rugby league class. Even when the 12th man made a parody of him it was all class " Pearce off jack, gibbs on"

I'll just add something else, not sure if Gibson was the first to come up with this tactic, but he taught halfbacks and five eighth's to kick it to the seaguls, which might seem strange at first but makes perfect sense. Seagulls are normally in an area where there are no humans, so thats why the great playmakers have done well under Gibson.

And also cricketers used that tactic, they would hit the ball it to the seagulls.
