Friday the 10th of June saw one of the “newer” innovations in Rugby League come to fruition. I have it in quotation marks because in reality its not a new innovation in Rugby League. The International Origin match played in Leeds saw the England Lions team take on an Exiles team, the exiles team was meant to be made up of Australians and New Zealanders. The Exiles in a last minute dash were able to overcome the England team 16 to 10.
I did have every intention this week on writing up a summary of last weeks results from around the world, but work and other news have forced my hand into just a quick summary and some press releases.

IRFL Press Release – Sicilian Youth play strong part in Italian League Evolution!
JUN 22ND, 2011 From Joel Morgan, IRLF media
Three weeks into a national Italian Rugby League competition under a new brand – the ‘r-Evolution League’ as managed by the Italia RFL is starting to show glimpses of a game that was lost after the 50’s and 60’s – as it was known in mystery back than as ‘gioco a 13’, but now Rugby a 13. But also rugby league has gained growing niches in Rome (under 2010 Champions – Gladiators Roma) and through the Sicilians with Spartans Catania. Rugby League had never been played at a domestic level outside Northern Italy until 2010 when the Italia RFL was born.
Today some more great news to come out from Europe. The Nordic Cup which features Norway and Sweden has been expanded to also include Denmark now. Also the Dutch are back on the scene with an U17 GB squad touring there.
CZRLA Press Release – Czech 2011 State of Origin
June 23rd, 2011 From Andrew Mulhall
The announcement of the CZRLA East team for this weekend’s annual State of Origin match to be played on Saturday in Vrchlabi signals the beginning of the Czech Rugby League’s 2011 representative season.
Once again its been a very hectic week for me, with preparations for a big conference and trip overseas, so sorry for not being on top 100%. This weekend sees many representative matches played around the world. Jamaica are preparing for their Canadian match, which I will be covering. BARLA continue their tour down under with a match as the opener to the NRL in Perth and the Czechs have their annual State of Origin. Malta’s domestic competition also kicked off this week.
The CZRLA West team, made up of players from the Prague & Beroun clubs, as well as Chrudim, are the 2011 Czech Representative Champions. West, with the majority of their players coming from the 2010 CZRLA champion team & 2010 league leaders at the midway point in the 2011 domestic season – Beroun Black Panthers – scored the 1st 3 tries of the match, all by Jan Buben, & looked as though they were on course to dominate the match, much as Beroun have done throughout most of their matches this season. However CZRLA East, made up of players from the Pardubice Jets & Vrchlabi Mad Squirrels, hit back with 3 unconverted tries of their own before half-time ensuring that at the break the only difference between the teams was a late try for West by Beroun captain-coach David Dolak, & 2 conversions from Buben.
FRANCE, SCOTLAND AND IRELAND TO FIGURE IN AUTUMN INTERNATIONALS SERIES
July 2nd, 2011 From Phil Caplan, RLEF Media Officer
The Rugby League European Federation has announced that France, Scotland and Ireland will face each other in a round robin international series over the autumn.
This week with a major Fusion conference, work and travel overseas I haven’t been able to keep on top of thins as usual. I apologise for this and I hope that by Sunday I will be back on board covering all things Rugby League. However not that there hasn’t been a lot happening I have been fortunate enough to have one of my regular readers of the site travel recently to a far corner of the Rugby league globe, the Cook Island. Cheyne Maher has been kind enough to write a summary of the experiences with Cook Island Rugby League.
There has been much that has happened in the last two weeks that I have not covered, but I am sure that everyone has been up to speed on things from other sources like rleague and Global Rugby League. However while I was back in Australia I was able to do a few things in Rugby League. So here is a quick summary of what’s been going on.
I don't know why the Hurricanes couldn't go straight into the USARL or Amnrl and be successful from day one.
With Dane's contacts I'm sure he could find three or four imports who want to spend 3 months in Jamacia who would be better than the imports in any other team, and filling the team with the best players in Jamacia should mean they will be pretty good.
I'd go as far as saying they could win it in their first season.
Canada Look to get One Back While Hungary to get its Next Game, IRFL Goes International
July 30th, 2011 From Various
This week quite a bit of news from several countries. The Canada v Jamaica clash is drawing closer and RLIS will be in Toronto to cover and report on the clash. Hungary are getting ready for their second match against a Serbian select from Belgrade and Italia RFL’s grand final goes international.
Canada 40 – 10 Jamaica
Fletchers Fields in Northern Toronto saw the Canadians host the Jamaican Rugby League team for the first time on home soil. The last time these two teams met each other was in Jacksonville last year as part of the Atlantic Cup. There the Jamaicans had a 10 point win over the Wolverines 36-26. However it was to be a different story this time round. The Canadians have had a full year and season to prepare and the players rearing to have another shot at the Canadians.
Following on from last weeks partnership announcement between the Hurricanes Academy and GC Foster College comes the announcement of Steven Birchall committing to the Hurricanes Academy as Gold Partner for the 2011/12 season.
The American National Rugby League has announced the main venue for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup Atlantic qualifier
Three of the sport’s premier teams – Jamaica, South Africa and the United States – will compete in a week-long tournament with the winner earning the final spot in the 2013 World Cup tournament.
This week some controversy has been stirred up by the AMNRL with the announcement of their venue for the World Cup Qualifiers in October. The controversy stems from the fact that the stadium is a baseball stadium rather than a traditional “Football” stadium. However this is a very smart move by the AMNRL in a few respects. Let me go through why I think this is a smart move by the AMNRL and why fans everywhere should support it and not be too concerned.
