This weekend the greatest show on Earth

August 27th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

This weekend Rugby Leagues pinnacle in the domestic game comes to a close for another year. It comes to a close, but it will go out with such a bang that it makes the “spectacle” of State of Origin look like a high school production. Yes its that time of year again… Challenge Cup Final. So I thought I would share some of my memories and thoughts from when I went to the final in 2008 and some of the early round games.

Revamp of the Video Ref

September 1st, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

So I was thinking about the latest referee controversies and how things may be solved. So I have one possible idea, and am curious to see what people think and if they can find any holes in it. But first some round ups of results from around the world, where of course the Challenge Cup takes pride of place.

I Finally Get the Point!

September 24th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

So those that follow me on twitter, facebook and the website all know that in the last week I have moved to the United States of America for work. It afford me a unique opportunity to see Rugby League in the United States and Canada and Jamaica. but most of all it provides me a perspective into the world of professional sports, one that I think I didn’t get in Australia or Europe. I was lucky that last weekend, two days in the country I was invited to my first College (American) Football game. I was a convert.

Book Review: Cracking the Footy Codes

October 8th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

As promised I have read through Tony Squires new book “Cracking the Footy Codes”. So this blog post will be a sort of a book review. Now the book is for the newbie, a person who has no idea of any of the four football codes in Australia, rather than the avid and dedicated fan.

So International Rugby League is Dead…

October 26th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

… Well according to Dean Richie at the Daily Telegraph. Sometimes I wonder how the hell a supposed journalist and supposed Rugby League fan get a job at a major newspaper like that. So Dean wrote an “article” in the Telegraph on Tuesday the 26th of October with one of the most inaccurate and arrogant titles “Bumbling Brits killing International Rugby League”.

Wales Retain Title and Spot in 4 Nations

October 28TH, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

So what to make of the weeks results? The European Cup certainly has thrown up some interesting, yet positive debate I feel. For the first time in a long time I think we can genuinely talk about who really is the 4th best country in the world of Rugby League? There are now three contenders Papua New Guinea who are in the current 4 Nations and Wales and France who played out an absolute thriller of a match on the weekend in Albi.

Atlantic Cup 2010 – Day 1, Tomahawks in Training

November 15th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

After a week of intensive work in the field of Plasma Physics and Nuclear Fusion in Chicago the time has finally come for me to fly to Jacksonville Florida for the Atlantic Cup. Aside from Rugby league International Scores, I am also writing for Rugby League Review. This will be an almost day by day account of the Tournament and as it progresses through the week.

Atlantic Cup 2010 – Day 2, Jamaica in Training

November 16th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

Day two of the week in Jacksonville. Last night the Jamaican Rugby League team arrived. I had an unexpected yet welcome surprise, my old friend Dane Campbell is here, he is one of the assistant coaches and conditioners with the Jamaicans. After a tough year with Injury and surgery he has decided to treat himself with a trip and help the Jamaicans. Steve Mascord, Dane and I ended up in a great bar on the Neptune Beach foreshore talking about the international game and trying some of the local cuisine and beer. The Shrimp and Grit (despite its name) was a delicious meal.

Atlantic Cup 2010 – Day 3, The Presser!

November 17th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

Today was an early start for me, 4 am to be precise. I had World League this morning with Chris on HKC Radio and that was at 5 am. Despite getting the interview with Romeo Monteith and Dean Thomas last night a technical hitch didn’t get the interview aired but it is added onto the pod cast for you to listen to. After a light breakfast and production meeting of the days and weeks events (if the TV stuff works its going to look awesome!) it was off to the press conference at Midday. Steve Mascord, my roomy, slept like a log finally so it was great to see him up and about fresh from his travels. We took our place at the tables…. Oh and yes the back is still stuffed… thanks for asking.

Atlantic Cup 2010 – USA 36 Jamaica 26

November 17th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

So the Press conference was over, Steve Mascord and I bunkered down to write our stories. Despite everything it really is quite tiring getting around to interview players, chase people down through the day to get information, team lists etc… bit of an eye opener. Certainly when I wrote and did thing in Europe it was never this full on. At about 4pm we were off to Hodges stadium via Walmart and a petrol station.

Atlantic Cup 2010 – Day 4, Recovery.

November 18th, 2010
Daniel Andruczyk

Day 4 of the Atlantic Cup started, well at midnight, I was busy working away getting some stories out. The Jamaican management team was next to me going through their videos, analysing each game and player. It was great watching and listening to them in action. I thing as a fan I never really appreciated what went into the game after it happened. The players may do the hard yards with the ball but the managers and coaches are sitting there till the wee hours making sure they get the next game right. When I finally left them at about 2 am, they had been going at it for about 3 hours and had only analysed the first 20 minutes of that game! Some of the players were also up and just sitting and chatting in the lobby, they looked wide awake. I guess when you have adrenalin running through you after a game like that it takes a while to wind down. Still being a night owl like that has given me a further appreciation and insight into what makes a game of Rugby League and a team.

Atlantic Cup 2010 – Day 5, Rest and Relaxation

November 19th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

Day 5, started with breakfast with the teams. There was a quick meeting with the guys from We Are Rugby, they have tested the feed now and it is working 100% so tonight should be a great show. The problem was that the server was the same one the Uni was using and so with the game and students logging on it overloaded the system, Tonight there is a dedicated server and we have full bandwidth only for the game. So things should be perfect. I also relayed some of the comments from the RLIS readers about the coverage that was on there and the WAR guys were thankful for that.
