We just take over the contract. You guys will be getting nothing. Maybe we will release someone like Horo to you but you would not get any financial compensation seeing that we are taking him off your salary cap.

Unless the sharks release him (why would they?) then you will be paying for the release in some way. Clubs just don't give you players if they don't want to. Flanno said recently they were looking to sign him up for a few more years so you can conclude that we don't just want to release him for nothing.

Jeremy Smith will be joining Parra in 2013. Announcement will be made next week.

If that is true - and that's a big IF - don't be too worried. Maybe we're finally realising we need decent backs to make a crack at the finals! Obviously Jennings (and Sa'u, perhaps) would be prime targets.
Tupou is meant to be in prime condition and will easily make as big an impact as Smith. Smith's a great player, but we have a great back row without him anyway. We need to strengthen our weakness - outside backs.
Could be a good move for us.

Smith is a big game player - wouldn't like to lose especially after playing his best footy for us this year.

Avenger do you really think the sharks will release him from his final year of his contract willy nilly without any sort of financial compensation?

Last time I checked Rugby League is a business not a charity

Compensation for what Snoop? There is no transfer system in the NRL. It's a simple 2 scenario system

Player asks for release and it is granted. New club takes over contract

Player is released against his wishes. Player has to find new deal and old club has to make up any shortfall.

"If" Smith asks for a release and it is granted The Eels don't have to pay a red cent.

Yes but what happens if a player asks for a release and the club doesn't grant it?

The sharks will have to get something out of it

Then he can't go. He plays on for his current club or sits out. It's simply up to the club to be strong enough to say no.

Can be please jsut swap Smith for that big unit centre Loko. On a side not, Luke Kelly is now gone having being signed by the EELS yesterday.

Goes OK that Jacob Loko. Probably destined for the second row though.

Luke Kelly was poor last night reef. I know he's better than that but he choked big time.

That Luke Kelly has no idea in defence. His positional play was disgraceful. He plays like the white version of Ben Roberts

Kelly is one of btr's favourites. Must be in the name as he likes Albert too. I was expecting more from Luke Kelly given the raps.

Well, there you go.
It does have legs.

Danny Weirdman reports Luke Lewis is Sharkbound.

If so Smith is gone.

Where did he say that 73

He didn't actually say that. In today's Sun Herald he said Gould met with Willett because he heard that Lewis had done a deal with us. Willett then denied stating Lewis is going nowhere, "Luke is going to stay at Penrith and has not asked me to look anywhere else"
