Am I wrong or do games overlap with the starting times ? If that's the case Why the hell would this be a good idea ?, is it aimed at getting more people to the grounds. How am I meant to watch all the games lol.

England arrive in Perth Friday, are playing a warm up game next week so I would assume a bit of promotion will start once they arrive. You would imagine the reason that the Poms are spending a week in Perth before it all starts would be for promotional purposes, I would think that it will be the case everywhere next week when all teams arrive in the country and the media actually have people to interview.

Fingers crossed!!!
Just convinced 5 mates to come so doing my bit!

My predictions for week 1

Fri Oct 27
Aus v Eng @ Melbourne =29k

Sat Oct 28
PNG v Wal @ Port Moresby =15k
NZ v Sam @ Auckland =18k
Fij v USA @ Townsville =14k

Sun Oct 29
Sco v Ton + Ire v Ita @ Cairns =15k
Fra v Leba @ Canberra =13k

Average =17.3k

Very optimistic predictions. I wouldn't be surprised if they all fall short of those predictions.
As per all crowd predictions threads on this forum I'd say take off around 10-20% from the predicted crowds and that's usually about where it ends up.

Hopefully not though as that would be a pheonominal start to the tournament.

Agree. When Populus designed and built the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby, it was always built so it could easily be expanded to 25K, shame that expansion didn't happen.

That target of 450K would have become a lot easier with PNG contributing closer to 75K versus 45K.

Yeah it's a shame. Still 3 sold out crowds of close to 15K is awesome especially considering they would otherwise be really low drawing games.

Hopefully in the future the stadium is expanded. Between the hunters and hopefully more international matches the stadium should be seeing more use.

lol this is the worst criticism of the draw i've seen, and there have been a lot

I don't profess to to be the best draw maker, but surely you have 4 pool games (Australia)- play them in regional places, i.e Newcastle, Townsville, Canberra, etc. You can possibly justify the opener being at a major stadium but that's it.

You then can use the bigger stadiums as you get to the QF/SF/Final stages.

Not every big game should be at ANZ or Suncorp.

It doesn't even have to be Australia, could have easily made England play in Townsville. Half my family is in Townsville, and they are absolutely disgusted with the schedule. If you think fans are going to sell out that stadium to watch some minnows you are kidding yourself. Put an Australian game on there, it really isn't rocket surgery.

Well there are no games at ANZ so that’s not a problem.
Sydney gets two games, neither are big games and by capita you have to say Townsville is doing pretty well in comparison.

some games overlap, but thats an hour in between (e.g. 3;00PM game 4:00PM game) On the sunday of week 2, 2 games start at the exact same time!

Townsville got two "big games" in 2008 and got 10,780 & 16,239 attendances.

Don't think they'd be packing out 1300 smiles no matter who was playing.

How are Townsville doing well? They get to watch scrubbers like Japan...woopiee doo! They have every right to be filthy. Put an Australian or England game on there.

By capita as I said in my first post.
Japan aren’t in the World Cup so I don’t know what event you’re talking about.

Getting 4 minnows isn't doing well. At least my family save money on the tickets they were going to buy. It's RL's loss there. They aren't going to watch 4 useless teams.

You think Sydney getting England and Australia vs Lebanon is doing well?

At least they get to see England and Australia. Better players to watch.

The matches going to NQ are much more exciting. Australia and England are just going to lap Lebanon. The games going to NQ will be very competitive. Also that's one of the great things about the World Cup, you get to see countries and players you wouldn't otherwise.

There are also limited matches involving Australia and England. Think about how many places want and deserve those games. Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, GC, Newcastle, Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, NQ, NZ, PNG, Canberra. There are so many places someone has to miss out.

How are we tracking compared to 2008 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand? From memory it was well attended with some good crowds..

I’d like to see more tv commercials and radio advertisements. I haven’t heard one ad on the radio promoting games in Sydney at all.

Newspapers are doing a good job promoting, but channel 7 need to really ramp things up to get everyone excited.
