Every game is a concern bar the Darwin one and even that looks to be capped around 14K. We're going to need a big walk up if we're any chance of a decent crowd. With those ticket prices I'd be surprised to see a lot of people coming in last minute.

They should have an online free ticket give a way for a couple of hours like they did for the Australia v Lebanon game inflated the crowd to decent on the night.

What an embarrassment the crowd is going to look on sat night for both quarters in NZ. I honestly think they will be doing well to get 5,000 at both games. Just having a look at the Cat A sales, it appears only about 20% have been sold for the bays they have opened at Westpac.

This whole tournament has shown how out of touch the organisers are in terms of ticket prices. Wellingtons only game this year for Rugby League it should be getting 15,000 no issues. But at $70 a ticket for the majority of tickets they have opened up...gee its little wonder hardly anyone is going to turn up.

All I can say is the organisers a lucky Tonga will make the Semi for Auckland....because I am confident it would have sold few tickets due to the pricing. They will fill out the ends easily, but the stands will be another story.

Yeah looks like we're going to finish the tournament with some shit house crowds. Surely they must realise what's happening? Those tickets should be $20 and selling the place out. No point charging $70 and selling practically no tickets.

Agree slash ticket prices to $20 across the board for the slow selling games.

Surly they learnt some lessons from the opener where over priced tickets cost them a sell out but apparently they have learnt nothing..

It’s sad a semi final of the World Cup of our game isn’t seen to be worth $85 for the best seat in the house.

How much did the Socceroos fans who filled the stadium last night pay?

You can get a ticket for $25 and sit where you want. People are still not going because they aren't interested. The rugby biased media and NZ peoples prejudices are too ingrained. League is a mess in Wellington. Its been years in the making, but its about as low as it can get without disappearing.

While i agree Wellington Rugby League is in a shocking state, the fact is Wellington has failed to attract any less than 18,000 for the last four NRL games held there (which has been over the last five years). The lowest crowd they have received is 13,700.

I think they will be lucky to hit 5,000 because of the pricing...It could be to do with the public in wellington as the crowds for Rugby and the Phoenix have been dismal.

11,898 is an encouraging PAX... Maybe they have been giving away freebies into the areas not on sale...

I understand Bays 20 - 24 in Christchurch have also had tickets allocated into them despite not being on public sale...

12,000 is very good. Perhaps we'll see a 'Sydney Scenario' in which free tickets are being distributed everywhere behind the scenes. If it can get both venues around 50% capacity (so 15,000 NZ v FIJI and 9,000 Tonga v Lebanon) that will be a success.

Did anyone catch the crowd figure for the women’s World Cup opener.. It look pretty ordinary. Like less than 1000.

Yeah, it's women's sport on a Thursday afternoon.

There's a reason why the women's Ashes has been played at Coffs Harbour and North Sydney Oval and not the SCG.

Let's compare the potential crowds this weekend to the 2013 World Cup quarter final crowds:

Australia v USA, Wrexham, Wales - 5,762
New Zealand v Scotland, Leeds, England - 16,207
England v France, Wigan, England - 22,276
Samoa v Fiji, Warrington, England - 12,766

You would think that New Zealand v Fiji in New Zealand could match New Zealand v Scotland in England. Hopefully a walk-up crowd brings us up to around that 16k mark (I've seen a PAX above for 11k or so)

Australia v Samoa: The venue for this game is a shame because this could have sold out at Penrith at around 22k but I understand that the guaranteed dollars from the NT Gov are what will deliver the profits in this tournament. This one could have matched the England v France crowd though.

England v PNG in Australia was never going to match England v France in England but hopefully this can get up around the 12.7k mark that Samoa and Fiji pulled four years ago.

Tonga v Lebanon: Tonga has a lot of momentum bit I'm not sure what to expect from Christchurch this weekend. I don't really know what the Tongan population is like in that city or whether the Tongan supporters will travel from other parts of NZ to surely see them take their place in a World Cup semi-final. I think it will comfortably beat Australia v Wales though.

So if Tonga can somehow pull 15k, NZ 16k, England 12k and Australia sell-out in Darwin we could go close to matching the pretty impressive quarter final crowds from the last world cup plus have the addition of much better TV ratings.
