Robbie Farah gone?

I agree with Macnaz that the behind the scenes reasoning has not come out yet and we should hold judgement until we know more. There are strong and valid arguments from both points of view but without knowledge of what is actually happened. TBH the WT media statement rises a question or two with me as to circumstances. I can read either Farah having a dummy spit with the club direction / coaching and wanting out or the club surprising him.

I also agree that we need to wait and see what has gone on behind the scenes before anyone can fully judge the situation. There was also good points made by Hutch re Robbie's form and by Madunit re the overall situation. That being said I do, however, strongly believe that the club owes the fans (sponsors and supporters of all types as well) that explanation. It is tough enough supporting WT at the moment but the very least we deserve is transparency around this situation. One other point is that ever since the series of events (soap opera) that is the Sheens / Humpheries / Payten / Potter / Benji / (Tallis ~ Farah) / Mayer scenario we have become a shambles! The question is....WHO IS LEADING THIS CLUB? WE HAVE NO STRONG OFF FIELD LEADER! In some clubs it's the head coach - Think Bennet, Bellamy or Hasler. In others it's an administrator - Think Politis, Gould or Ray Dibb. We have a power and leadership vacuum. We have not even replaced Mayer yet and Moss the interim CEO has not been seen nor heard since. WE ARE A LEADERLESS RABBLE....it pains me to say it, but it's true! Nothing will change until we have solid leadership / management.

There is no way the club should be paying a red cent of his contract with another club. If there is a two way agreement he wants out and the club is ok with that than a release is allowed on his contract, full stop. If there is a pay out figure demanded than he can fulfil his contract with the Wests Tigers.

Cant disagree and with the interim NRL aligned board members, the club will continue to miss long term leadership.

The idea of life long members of a team is practically dead. Either the players end up wanting out or the management. It's a shame really.

Robbie Farah says he was told he will play reserve grade if he stays at Wests Tigers

Wests Tigers captain Robbie Farah has been told he will play reserve grade if he stays at the club.

Farah, a life member of the Tigers who was part of their 2005 premiership win expressed his disappointment at a media call on Wednesday morning after being told by the club he can leave at the end of this season.

"I've been told if I stay I will be playing reserve grade," Farah said. "Yeah it's hard to hear, it's not nice. Whether they mean it or not, I'm not too sure.

"Whether it's to just to get me to go [I'm not sure] but if I stay I guess we'll find out. I've been here for the biggest part of my life it's tough to deal with. I have to move forward. I kind of had an inkling for a few weeks.

"I love this club. I've given blood, sweat and tears for this club."

South Sydney have emerged as the frontrunners for Farah's signature although he said it was too early to speculate where he'd end up.

Farah said the club's decision to show him to door will give them an opportunity to free up their salary cap.

The 31-year-old still has two years on remaining on his contract remaining and was adamant he would be fulfilling that despite being told he would not be playing first grade if he stayed.

"I'm not willing to walk away without a fight either," Farah said. "I'm not going to walk away from a two year contract. It's got to be on my terms as well. I'll continue to love this club, it's a massive part of my life. I'm a Wests Tigers player for the next two years and all I've been given is permission to negotiate elsewhere. Whatever comes of that I'm not sure. At the end of the day I have to deal with it and move forward."

The Tigers released a statement on Tuesday evening saying Farah has been given permission to leave, a decision they said was "not made lightly but ultimately allows the Club a chance to restructure the football team to allow for future success".

Farah was upset he would not get a chance to say goodbye to fans properly and also voiced his concerns at not being able to find a club for next season. "The fact I probably won't get a proper farewell to the fans and the club and my teammates ... is disappointing," Farah said. "It would have been nice to go out in a better fashion. I think more the fact how late it is in the season - it's going to be tough to find somewhere so late in the piece.

"The situation the club's in with the salary cap and the pressure there, the way my contract is I guess that put together [makes sense]. It was pretty clear it was going to be pretty hard for them to keep me there."

Farah has not been happy with his form this season and said finishing his time at the Tigers with the wooden spoon would be worst case scenario.

"I don't want to have the spoon," Farah said. "It'd be nice to finish off with a couple of wins regardless of what's happening in six months time.

"My form's been down, I'm the first to put my hand up. It's been difficult. I've tried to take a back seat and help the young boys [Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks] take a bit of control in the halves. There's no doubt that's probably affected my ability to play."

Former teammate Bryce Gibbs, who was forced out of the club at the end of 2011 before finishing his career at Cronulla, tweeted a message for Farah.

@robbiefarah welcome to the wests tigers shafted squad mate, looks like your the captain of the squad.

So let him leave and still pay a % of his contract umm, that still effects the salary cap.

Let him stay and play reserve grade, yep that will do wonders for the 2nd tier cap.

It must be a laugh a minute at the board meetings with this rabble.

To be fair to Robbie, whilst supporting the need to sort out these damn contracts and salary cap mess, to give him only 2 weeks left in the season to find somewhere new is very bad management by WT. WT knew this was a problem months ago- it woudl have been fair to do this then now now and give him a chance to actively compete on the market before most clubs books are full. Realistically what is he supposed to do?

This is going to get ugly, how many ex players ex coaches are Tigers still paying for anyway,no wonder u have salary cap problems! Like someone posted what's the point of playing him in Reseve ? Most expensive Reserve player in history!! Rumours mill had Raiders , Rabbits in the mix, with someone mentioning my Dragons too??? But we are skint for cash next year so I really doubt it!

what player/coach in their right mind would sign a contract with us for longer then a year? no wonder we have to pay overs for dogshit players.

Terrible call. How we have cap troubles is beyond me. If we pay Farah to go and win a premiership with Souths next year the entire board should be punted along with anyone responsible for making such a ridiculous decision.

The salary cap is a cover. Clearly he is having issues with Taylor but Taylor is likely to have the wooden spoon in two weeks. Farah deserves much better, the contract is just an excuse for the real reason

Taylor's press conference said a lot

We are the true rabble of the league but the Tigers might be catching up

One thing is for sure, we're going to look like f**kwits if we sign someone of note in the off season.

"Uh guys, what about them cap troubles?"

At this stage of events I strongly doubt we will sign anyone of note, but we will still look like f**kwits without too much effort.

This issue with Farah looks like it stems from personal differences with JT, the club is obviously backing the coach and trying to pass it off as a professional business decision.Looks like WT fans will have to get used to the salary cap excuses for another 2 years with Farah's likely departure.

Farah seems to attract personal differences. Seems a prickly character.

Tigers putting a lot of eggs in a very little basket.......

I'm not saying Robbie is a great guy or something but I'd back him over Jason Taylor anyday. Taylor is a brainless moron who should sacked before Farah.

Taylor seems to be a knob of monumental proportions. Here's hoping one of the players punches him down the stairs on Mad Monday after we win the spoon.
