Rock is dead

You know rock is dead when Straight line by Silverchair is your new favourite song on the radio.

People piss and moan about my music, but atleast there was lead guitar, great voices, personalities etc now today we musicians who are dressed up in suits, playing stratocasters like the Beatles, songs are predominately acoustic, drum sets are barely 5 piece and the best singers are know better then Henry Rollins who is probably the worst vocalist i've ever heard.

Thanks Rock n' Roll for the 30 odd years of great music which produced the likes of Jimmy Page, Axl Rose, Robert Plant, Eddie Van Halen, Ronnie James Dio etc but now we have to move on and listen too The Vines, Ben Lee, The Killers, John Mayer etc as this is apparently what good music is now:? and i think we'll all agree this current crop is every bit as talented as the likes of Jimmy, Eddie, Bruce Dickinson etc

Oh, one thing atleast that is still alive? Punk woohoo:roll:

Ey leave The Killers alone. :p

Rocks been dead for ages, the radio is dominated with all the RnB and Pop songs which IMO have no substance. The only decent songs are Pop/Punk Pop/Rock but even then in 5-10 years we're going to be thinking, who are they? What was that song?

All ya can do is sit back and wait for the next generation to come, which at the moment doesn't look like it's going to happen with the current generation of Rock dominated by Emo or Alternative bands.

Stick in there Ron!

Ditch the mainstream arena of radio etc Ron and come join the metal underground, we are thriving.

I never listen to the radio or follow whats on the charts, its all sh*t to me.

There are some good rock bands still out there ron, you wont ever hear them on mmm or jjj or presented by some airhead on channel v. Its just a matter of redirecting your channels a bit. When you do, sh*t like straight lines will never bother you again

Rock died in about 1995, may it rest in peace.

It's sad, even some of my favourite artists have turned to crud, it's sad to pick up the latest Tool and Nine Inch Nails CD's and think about what great acts they once were. The White Stripes latest album sounds like it may have some potential but that's it really and even then I'm not that excited about that.

What's wrong with 10000 days? IMO Tool are every bit as good today as they have ever been...

It has no longevity. It's got a few good songs like Vicarious, Jambi and The Pot but is filled with far to much filler material even by Tool's standards.

I still listen to Opiate, Undertow, Aenima and Lateralus regularly but apart from the first 2-3 weeks after buying 10,000 days I've had no desire to go back to it.

As for Nine Inch Nails, well I didn't even get through the whole of the latest album, Trent needs to get back on heroin and quickly before he permanently scars his catelogue.

Agreed - there are some seriously kick-arse Aussie underground metal bands out there.

Even some of the more mainstream ones (such as Devolved) are pretty awesome.

I'd only listen to Dragonforce out of that lot, and occasionally Dream Evil, Moonsorrow and Opeth. The rest :?...

As far as rock goes, stop listening to the freaking radio! The new Blood Duster is pretty rocking from my first couple of listens. And Black Sabbath are touring in August with DIO this year so all is well in the world.

Rock n roll shall never die mate. This new wave generation of computer enhanced no musical talent what so farkin ever losers, shall die off pretty soon. "New" is always better in the young generation eyes. But then they grow up and realise they were just drug induced ludicriously full of " SHART " !!!!!

Ron J's first post is absolutely correct.

The only newish rock bands I like are Grinspoon, Jet, Sick Puppies and Nickelback.

The majority of the bands these days are emo/punk, hardcore or some nu-metal sh*tness.

I'm glad I'm not the only person on here who thinks the music scene has turned sour.

Guys. Rock and Roll had been done so many times over it looked like a Canterbury road street prostitute on smack. Then they tried the different solution. It failed as they lacked the winning ingredient of " musical talent ". It shall return brother.

Moonsorrow? They weren't in my shortlist...

Besides, those are all metal, hardcore or metalcore bands anyway. Part of the rock family, but not rock per se.

I am surprised you like Lateralus but not 10000 days.. I find them to be very similar albums.

I had the opposite with 10000 days.. I was forcing myself to stop listening to it so i could have a listen to the older stuff. I love undertow but am mostly still prefering to put 10000 days on.

I love both 10,000 Days and Year Zero.

I've actually been listening to Year Zero more than The Downward Spiral lately and I've been on a Nine Inch Nails binge since I saw them in Brisbane three weeks ago (Amazing show by the way).
