Its funny - Goo Goo Dolls used to be a sorta alternate pop punk band - now theyre a lame soft rock sellout band.

Lifehouse are like a lame-ass version of Bloc Party.

Goo goo dolls have always sucked.

I saw John Lydon give the singer a calendar once...and said here , this is so you know what fuggen year it is.
HAHAHAHA.

Rock isn't dead IMO.... it's just that it's full of poseurs like Jet, The Killers, the Bravery etc. I don't like silverchair but at least they have paid their dues in terms of making albums, getting an audience and copping criticism.

Radio has fail me ( I dont even listen to the Js any more) but I have a pretty substantial CD collection to keep me pre-occupied.

Fortunately for me I listen to heaps of different kinds of music and living in Melbourne town I'm pretty spoilt for choice cos theres always stuff for me to see! Tonight I'm off to see Zombie Ghost Train and then in a cople of weeks time I'll be going to see Wanda Jackson then my mate's band Catgut Mary are playing in Geelong with Canadian folk punk band The Mahones.

zoombie ghost train seriously suck man!
Coheed and Cambria are a good band that proves rocki snt dead:cool:

Try and have a listen to a band called Non Point..

Spineshank were awesome as well, they have a new singer and have changed name apparently.. If and when i figure out whats happening with them i will post the name. Their album "the height of callousness" is fantastic and worth a listen. If your after something a little different both these bands are definately worth listening to.

Rock has sadly been dead for years. It's now all that (c)rap rubbish and female vocalists who sound like a strangled cat.

I know some will laugh and I've never been a fan of his previously but Marilyn Manson's new album Eat Me, Drink Me really took me by surprise. Gone is the electronic technoish rubbish and he's put a really mellow rock album together and it sounds bloody good.

Just a tiny glimour of hope but 2007 is still shaping up to be a rubbish year for music. You just know the talk surrounding Metallica's new album that they're going back to a Master of Puppets sound is only going to lead to dissapointment. Apart from that there's not much to look forward to.

Hey RJ - I know it's not rock, but if you haven't already, check out the Canadian metal band 3 Inches Of Blood. They are a modern tribute to pre-1985 heavy metal bands, and their singing duo of Cam Pipes and Jamie Hooper, alongside their twin lead guitars, are a lot of fun.

The music itself has a lot of "old school" character and, to quote Jamie himself, "We're nu-metal's greatest enemies."

.

I really dig the new manson album, it's just straight forward hard rock. Not overly gothic and industrial. Heaps of guitar solos too.

I get that it's a concept album, it's just an average concept. I'll admit that it's growing on me after listening to it over the last few days but I wouldn't rate it any higher than on par with With Teeth or Petty Hate Machine. It's certainly no The Fragile or The Downward Spiral, anyone calling it some of his best work probably want to have a thorough listen through his full catelogue.

You know things are tough when you're citing the likes of Lifehouse and the Goo Goo Dolls as examples of Rock being alive and kicking. They're prime examples of this bland generic sound that is killing rock.

k first off bands like lifehouse arent killing rock barley anyone listens too them its not like there that big

and no one is forcing people too listen too threm there very raley on the radio

i would perfer these soft rock bands than emo and boy bands and this hip hop stuff thats out these days

That's fine but this is a thread about how rock is dead due to the fact that there's no talent or originality in the music anymore. Lifehouse is the exact type of band that typifies this with their bland generic style. If you've heard Lifehouse you've heard a million other bands, it's like citing Nickleback as a reason that rock is still alive and kicking.

The early to mid 90's was the last great generation of rock music with the grunge scene in particular. Since then we've had an invasion of this soft c**k rock invading the airwaves that bores me and others to tears.

crap theres lots of heavier bands around hell iron maiden are just as good as when they first started

Greenwheel and vonray are classic style rock bands
snow patrol yes chasing cars was soft but even old school rock bands had soft ballards
really im lost on what rock is too some of u guys

the era for bands like ac/dc - pink flyod - Queen - Bon Jovi - Guns and Roses - Twisted Sister-Posion - Led Zeplin - the Eagles is dead and has been fo0r years people move on

the same thing has happened with rap how many rap artist are there these days its nothing like the genre was in the 80s or 90s these days its just r n b

it sucks but there nothing we can do about it except go out and form a band yourself and try and help the genre get back up ,but whats the bet u will give up and sell out cause theres no money in it

They're good, eh! I love those guys.

Also pretty fond of DragonForce. Kirk Hammett reportedly described them as the fastest guitar players he's ever seen.

Moonsorrow? They weren't in my shortlist...

Besides, those are all metal, hardcore or metalcore bands anyway. Part of the rock family, but not rock per se.

My bad. I always get Moonspell and Moonsorrow confused...

Moonsorrow are way better though ;-) Check 'em out.

Will do, mate!

And another old school-ish metal band that's pretty cool is Dream Evil. I love their song "Heavy Metal Jesus". It's awesome.
