Overall, I think the crop of rookies coming through this year is of the highest quality. It's a testimony to the success of the NYC.

Dugan
Croker
Mead
K Gordon
Idris
Mortimer
Locke
Vidot
Prior
Tomane
Waddell
Thompson
Porter
Ayshford
Wright

There are a few more who aren't that hyped but have done well in their rookie year:
Mannah Brothers (esp Tim)
Nathan Stapleton
Steve Rapira

I really think Croker is making a late charge. His form in the last 6-8 weeks has been outstanding.

They would be hard pressed topping the 2007 crop...

Folau
Jennings
Inu
Pearce
Luke
Paterson
Ballin
Taylor
Stanley
JMorris
Nightingale
Zillman

And several others I have forgotten

Good list but it will take another year to see how this years group progresses. I'm still happy to back the 2009 class.

i am going out on a limb to say...
there is no standout for rookie of the year...
it could be any of a handful of players.

i dont think the rookies this season are anywhere near that of seasons gone by..

Josh Dugan should be it. Who has been better than him for the Raiders this year? (not a tough thing to do mind you)

I think the rookies have been great this year though, Dugan, Locke, Mortimer and Idris in particular

i think croker has been far more impressive than dugan this year. Dugan has looked alright in some games but has hardly been killing it. I'd like to see mortimer get it but i don't think he has played enough games. Can't say there has been an absolute stand out like previous seasons(hayne 06, Falou 07 )be interesting to see who will get it

I don't see what the fuss about Idris is to be honest..

to a degree i absolutely agree. He's huge and he knows how to use his size, that in itself is a skill but as far as skill goes, i dont think he's within cooooee of the other debuts named in this thread. He has power and size, thats the absolute limit of his ability right now.

But remember though back in 2007 people said the same thing about Folau and Inu, Folau had all the size and Inu was more talented.

But who is the big name now? Idris has enormous potential, he is already as big as Greg Inglis.

Dugan/Mortimer/Gordon could split it. If I had to choose, I'd go with Mortimer, based on the Eels late season charge with him in a key position.

Folau always had some footwork to go with his power and size though. Idris is a fantastic talent no doubt, he is a massive kid and as i said, he knows exactly how to use it, and if he doesnt develop any foot work/accererlation or evasion skills, he'll still have a very long and illustrious career living off trampling over the top of people on his way to tries. But as far as football skills, i think he's behind most others
