Roosters Out of Junior Comps

I agree with everything you have said there DKOR but my problem is the fact that as a Roosters fan, my kids have 4 clubs to choose from to begin with. 4 junior clubs....and the reason being is the pathetic boundry lines drawn that have the Dolphins and Wombats, both from Coogee, Maroubra, Moore Park and a few others playing in the Souths juniors comp. And then some rabbitohs fans have the hide to say the Roosters should produce their own.

Just how many NRL stars are going to come from 4 junior clubs.
There was a statistic a few years back that only 5% of Flegg players in the whole comp, will go on to play NRL. Which meant that maybe 2-5 players would advance from 1 club.
So from 4 junior clubs they need to pick SG Ball and HM then hopefully on to Flegg/U20's....you would be lucky to find 1 or 2 kids talented enough to make grade.

Souths have a Monopoly on the Junior System in the Eastern suburbs and the kids are the ones that suffer because of it.

As I mentioned, in another post which I was probably typing as you were typing your's, if the Roosters made an approach to the NSWRL and South's Juniors to get some of their former Junior clubs back, I'm sure that it would be met with agreement. No such approach has been made.

If you seriously think the NSWRL will actually do something then you dont know the NSWRL.
They cant even attract teams to compete in their Premier competition (NSW Cup) and keep up to date on their own website let alone help any junior clubs who are looking for the Boundaries to be re-writen.
It definately should be done, but the odds of the NSWRL actually acting on this request is slim to none....
One of those situations where you wish in one hand and $hit in the other and see which one fills up first...:D
But you raised good point there DKOR!

I don't blame the Roosters. They have identified an area where they can save money and are doing so. I blame the people running the game. Obviously the Roosters feel that they aren't on an even keel with the Junior situation, so they should pull out of there and focus energy elsewhere. Its the NRL and NSWRL's job to ensure that all teams are on an even playing field and part of this responsibility should be to ensure that all teams have a share of and contribute to the grass roots.

The return of first graders from running Harold Matts and Ball teams would be pretty pathetic. Unless you obligate clubs to do it, I can understand why they wouldnt. Most players from a good Ball side would end up playing at other clubs and you would be lucky to get 2 first graders for the investment.

Why do the Roosters need to have juniors? Why not pour their money into raiding other clubs that develop juniors like the eels and panthers ?
Perfect business sense.

An easy way to ensure that all NRL teams maintain juniors, would be to give the first grade team salary cap concessions for any Junior that they develop right through to first grade. If it would give teams an advantage at the top level to maintain the lower levels, then I'm sure all the NRL sides would have a lower level structure. Talk of the Roosters having no money is garbage. The only reasons behind this decision are that they can save money and the NRL will do nothing to stop them getting away with it.

well it's not that they have no cash it's just that they have less ... and I understand that. they're making a business decision to keep their club as solvent as possible.

it just happens to be my club and I relaly hate that it's happening.

you're right - the nrl has to protect this stuff, because you can't expect clubs who are essentially answering to the bottom line to always make good longterm choices.

the nrl has to make it financially attractive for clubs to keep and promote juniors.

although obviously I'd prefer more leadership from the league clubs, and for someone to look at increading pokies taxes as an opportunity to find other sources of revenue. HINT HINT GUYS. god knows I'm doing my part with all the booze I buy at the leagues club.

as for redrawing juniors lines to get back the juniors clubs that were absorbed into souths - I think it's never ever gonna happen.

Time to bring in some criteria for holding an NRL license I say! For too long clubs have been able to cruise along without having to meet any standards on or off the field to maintain their NRL position.

Must be a worry for Roosters fans that the club can't afford $200K? to run jnr teams. Given the value of jnr teams to a club this drastic measure must mean they are financially in some trouble?

I agree
Surely part of getting a licence for an NRL team must also be to run junior teams at specified age groups e.g. U20, U18, U16

If a club can't afford to do that, then they shouldn't be in the NRL

Surely there should some criteria to holding an NRL franchise? Teams shouldn't be allowed to just cut jnr's, it is the lifeblood of the game and if all clubs took this attitude the game would be stuffed!

Good point.

Unfortunately other clubs are probably going to follow the Rooster's lead.

Chief executive Brian Canavan said the Roosters would continue to offer scholarships to players in those age groups but admitted players may have to be recruited from other clubs and areas at an older age.

It is good to see the club has finally made it's recruitment policy official

LOL there is so many roosters fans that know SFA about anything but post crap anyways

Souths stole your juniors? LOL heard that line before. Do some research you dickheads and you will know this is not the case.

Border lines changed? Again it has nothing to so with the Roosters funding it's juniors or SG ball and Harold Matts.
Not to mention most clubs that are playing in the Souths juniors didn't even exist back then and were formed by Souths juniors, not to mention that Roosters juniors teams pulled out of the Roosters on their own accord to join Souths because of poor treatment it recieves from the Roosters. Not to mention Roosters don't even have a competition for kids to play in so they have to play in the Souths comp otherwise they would have no where to play.

You weak Rooster fans try and point the finger at someone else except taking the blame for own club being the scum sucking vile that they really are.
Look in your own backyard. Your junior system is F**ked is because of your club. No other reason.

You support a F**ked up club and I feel sorry for you all because you become F**ked up yourselves and can't even see right from wrong.

This is disgracefull.
They only just had trials last few weeks for these teams, Rooster fans and kids who tried out are meant to be getting a call back this week to see if they made the teams.

The Roosters do nothing for the game to develop it, they represent everything that is wrong for the game.

Thank god I'm A Souths fan.

Oh well. I'm happy. Since you lot got un-booted from the comp we have as many GF appearances as you do wooden spoons. And as many permierships as you do finals appearances. But hey, at least you're not f**ked up

Fair enough decision. Though they should be cutting other areas first. It will hurt the juniors... though every club has to do something.

If it wasn't for the Labor party rugby league wouldn't be in this position.
The A.T.O. brought in a raft of tax increases that excludes casinos and hotels yet imposes them on social clubs that sponser charities needy groups in their local communities. News Ltd. fills pages daily with anti labor rhetoric yet seems to tacitly approve the state`s imposition on working people`s sport and recreation, I believe some Sydney clubs will be weeded out within three years.

unless the nrl give concessions to clubs that put a lot of money into juniors.Clubs like Penrith and Parramatta should also not put sides in the junior competitions.Lets see how the rooters go then
