Wrong TL is a halfback and Johnson played for the Juniors as a Five-Eighth.

Cmon mate, Johnson has played for the Kiwis at 7 and made a GF in the same position. It's pretty irrelevant what he played in juniors. Leuluai has been signed as a five-eighth who is able to cover halfback and hooker proficiently.

Iefeta, you believe Henry will play centre? I don't dislike it but if we're worried about Hurrell defensively in the centres, surely he'll have another year of integration to defending on the wing.

TBH I am finding it hard to get excited by any of the combinations. Yes, they contain good players and yes they could win games. But exciting backline moves? Aggressive forwards?

Time will tell.

That backline may score a few but the opposition would bring up the ton just after halftime!

Can't come up with a variation that wouldn't be close to wooden spoon favourites. Looking at all these line-ups really brings it home.

In 2009 Lowrie had a sensational year at Parra. Since he moved to Melbourne, he's done a typical Melbourne forwards job. Plod forward, hold down in the ruck, let Bosh, D-Wade and LBJ score the buckets off the back of them. I thought however he was exceptional in the grand final. If I was Elijah Taylor I'd be fairly disappointed that he was coming, I thought Elijah defended very well this year. Taylor also has fairly good ball skills and balance, when he wasn't required to make 50 tackles a game because they were completing a decent percentage of their sets he showed a lot of skill in the NYC team. In many ways, I think Lowrie and Taylor are fairly similar.

I hope Lowrie goes back to what he did in 2009, because he was absolutely exceptional that year. That was the biggest gee up of all time. Absolute dud at Newcastle, fans horribly disappointed with him at Parra, and then like the rest of the team exploded and started playing ball like a second reincarnation of John Stockton.

I dunno Iafeta, I thought Taylor was caught out defensively on several occasions last season. But I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt that it was due to poor systems as opposed to his own in-deficiencies. And if we want him to offer ball playing he's got to used differently than last year.

Any suggestion we're a wooden spoon line up are naive, for mine. We all know there's about 8-10 rosters in any given season that could be spoon-worthy given poor coaching/poor form/a poor organisation/other circumstances.

3. Konrad Hurrell
4. Dane Neilson
5. Manu Vatuvei
6. Feleti Mateo
7. Shaun Johnson
8. Ben Matulino
9. Thomas Leuluai
10. Sam Ripira
11. Simon Mannering (Captain)
12. Ben Henry
13. Todd Lowrie

14. Jacob Lillyman
15. Nathan Friend
16. Russell Packer
17. Sione Lousi/Sam Lousi/ Elijah Taylor (Whoever is the fittest come game day).

Interchanging the halves during the game, Thomas to 6, Mateo to the forwards and Friend into 9.
Solid Team on paper and very safe with the known players we have. Not sure who is coming up from the 20's or the Vulcan's.
This team fit and mentally tough will win more than they will lose, as long as they get their Defence in order.

Taylor's defensive issues came when he constantly raced up out of the line. When he didn't make the tackle he really left our defensive line shot, and let's face it, last season our defensive line didn't need any extra encouragement to be horrible.

Shuffling the deck chairs mid game in the teams spine when there's no reason to isn't the best idea if you're looking for consistency.

Not sure what Friend offers off the bench that he doesn't when starting. Mateo at 6 I could live with, but only if Johnson was given free reign to play both sides of the field.

Yeah I want to go back to the days when we are feilding the biggest team up front (Intimidation Factor). Agree with Johnson working both side of the field ala Stacey Jones. Which will come I think over the pre-season with Stacey. Then let the little guys control the back end of the game. Again as long as our defence is in order.
