Round 10 Vs Newcastle

Wow the first time I have seen a truly honest no agenda post from you in a while. This is the truth. Newcastle could have easily won that game on the back of some execution that was off. They get that right and we would have lost to a team missing their biggest star, and a team roster that is still poor to mediocre at best.
That is one way of looking at it. Another way is that the youngest team in the comp, lost to the next youngest team in the comp and as Betcats puts it beautifully,

With so many players out we are going to look clunky, look at the bench we started with. Tamou plus 3 guys who have played f**k all nrl games. Half the spines out. Half our back line is out. Any win with a team like that is a good win.

When this game started we had 12 points, the Knights 10 and they were in equal 5th. You point out Newcastle is missing a star player, it may have escaped you attention but we are missing more first graders than any other club.

Coach Nathan Brown talked about having a lot of 30 or 40 game players whom make mistakes because they are inexperienced. Nathan, I would like you to meet Crichton, Luai, Kikau, Phillips, CHN, Ellis and James Fisher Harris.

This was an ugly but gritty win that to me highlighted two things:

- Maloney is the best signing we have had in years. No Maloney and with Moylan instead, we would be near the bottom of the ladder but look very pretty at times.

- Our team is nails hard and full of ticker. A team nobody wants to meet on a dark night in a dark alley somewhere. Cue JT checking under his bed again for JFH.

Umina you are a goose, there is no such thing as an easy game these days. if a team doesnt turn up you can easily lose.... In saying that how many teams would be in second place with such a long injury list (ie manly)... We technically have no backline ( edwards, mansour, blake, cleary) out that's 4/7 first grade starters..57.14%. Tell me what other team would be able to survive with that many first graders out!!!!!
You're the goose mate. There most certainly are hard games and easy ones. No game is impossible to win. And no game is guaranteed to win. But there are certainly different difficulty levels against each team.

Eels have lost 80% of their games. They are the worst team in the competition and currently the easiest team to beat. We have beaten them twice and I would back us to do so again without hesitation.

Dragons on the other hand will either be sitting on an 80% or 90% win rate after this round. The best in the competition and the most difficult to beat. I couldnt back us to beat them based on any game we've played this year. But I am optimistic that once we get troops back we can rise to their level.

Easy does not mean a guaranteed win. There's no such thing as that.

Mx, can't you ever be happy we won a game? Why does it always have to be that the opposition were s..t, the draw was easy, haven't beaten a top 4 team etc. You can only play and beat who you play which they have done 7/10 times.
We have half a team on the sideline, our biggest loss was by 6 points and we sit in the top 4. What more do you want?

We won by 11 last night and there was a12 point turnaround when Knights busted as and threw a terrible pass for Peachey to race away and setup DWZ.

I was stoked by that. But felt bad for Knights. The scoreline doesn't properly reflect the game IMO. we were the better team. But not 11 points better.

I'll take that f/a boost though. Could mean the differrnce between 4th and 5th at seasons end. Or 1st and 2nd. Deprnding on how we go.

Correct !! easy does not mean a guaranteed win so ergo there is no such thing as an easy win! If you go into a game thinking oh this is easy the you are setting yourself up for disappointment. So therefore no game is easy!!!

I am happy we won.

All 3 of our losses were to shit teams sitting in the bottom 5 though. We should be undefeated with the Dragons fearing us.

I dont feel bad for the Knights, why should I? How many bad years did we have getting flogged? Lot of people probably dont remember but back min the early 80s the leagyue wanted penrith out and let parramatta have all the juniors!!!!

You never seem to be happy.
We lost to the Dogs on the back of a woeful call, and were never given an even chance in Bathurst. Even though it would be nice, you can't win them all. Especially with so many injuries!

Blaming the referee for us giving up a third 14 nil headstart.

It was the first try of the game. Right or wrong thats not why we lost. Likewise the referee wasn't the reason we gave the Cowboys a 20 nil headstart. Our discipline is the issue. You can't blame the referee for a mistake when we make 10 times as many that are more costly. Especially if its early in a game. At the end of the game with no time to respond.. then you can blame them

We have calls go against us. We have them go in our favour too. We should have had a player in the bin last night. Ref warned us then stopped penalising us no matter how blatant. CHN is offside directly infront of the referee as Knights made an error. Gets away with it when he could have easily been penalised in bin..moments later he secures the win.

I get the shits with the referee at times. But can honestly say I don't think we've lost a game due to them. Our discipline and errors are a shitload worse than the referees ability. And we havent had a call cost us without time to have another crack.

Love the philosophical debate. But personally if I had a draw of playing either the Dragons or the Eels 24 times in a season, I know which 1 I'd pick. Will every game be easy - no. But comparatively easier to play the Eels than the Dragons - undoubtedly.

Hate to admit it but in this instance i agree with you MX. We are just dumb at times giving away dumb penalties and that will definitely come back to bite us in the next two games.

Although at some point both teams will choke and both become easy.

I would take either ahead of Storm. Regardless of form. We should be able to beat them this year. But even at full strength I couldnt feel confident in that regardless of the roster they have.

If this was too happen. Certain things would tip the scales. How would the Dragons look with Dufty, Aitken, Nightingale and Hunt out? I am sure the other week Tigers thought nice easy Eels here too.

People don't give us enough credit for what we have done

Its really quiet pathetic how bad those teams are. Especially Eels and Cowboys who had reason to be optimistic for this season.
Cowboys fall was predictable. Eels also to a degree, neither as bad as it has so far turned out though.

The Cows especially, they finished 8th last year and were made favourites on the back of three wins against teams who have all disappointed since (although the Sharks and Roosters are starting to gradually play themselves into reckoning). They are all 3 years older than when they won the comp and it shows. I did predict them to struggle before a ball was kicked. Losing McLean has not helped them, their formerly untouchable forward pack now seems average, except Taumalolo occasionally when he decides to have a go.

Parra had a creamy draw last year, even more so than us, and lost Radradra, who papered over a multitude of issues. Their best forward has been injured for ages and the rest of the pack aren't really up to it. Their star signing has also been out all year. Funny how they are looking to sign backs like Mansour when their problem is in the forwards.

Mansour was our best forward for years. Easy to see why Parra want him
