Round 11 v Rabbitohs - Team List

Generally goal kickers will practice kicking as 'extras'.

Which in itself shows just how far our club has to go to be truly professional (if that's in fact the case). Its not like kicking goals is an extra ordinary event (as opposed to say field goals). It should happen 2-6 times each and every game, so it should be at least as important as any other aspect of the training regime.

Considering we just lost because of poor GK, I think it goes without saying that Luke Kelly and Luke Burt would have been joined at the hip all week.

I wonder how much skills practise the players do.

Brian Smith was big on skill training and his teams showed plenty of razzle with low errors. The eels of the past 4 years cant string two passes together without park football dropped balls and forward passes.

I think Arthur has them practising set moves rather than improving the players skill sets.

You may be on to something. We f**k up a lot. I said in a post earlier that individually the players are big enough, fast enough, and strong enough, but there's something missing. That something might just be that they drop the ball too f**king much.

I'd also like to see some stats on how often we score when in the oppostion's 20, because I suspect we'd fare poorly, and have for years.

I know Burt improved his kicking in his last few years but I wouldn't ever say that he was one of the greats. So why is he our goal-kicking coach? Just jobs for the boys is my guess.

Well, to be fair, Craig Bellamy, Wayne Bennett, Michael MAguire, Trent Robinson, et al. were not all time greats as rugby league players, but they are clearly pretty handy coaches.

Burty might have done a TAFE course in goal kicking, or sports science or something.

I think our dropped balls arise more from poor decision making under pressure, rather than pure physical skills.

Yeah that could well be true, or at least partly explain it. It depends on who is dropping the thing and who is the one who passed it, I suppose. That sounds like a fairly arduous task to compile that kind of info...if only we had someone who was good at that kind of thing on here....

Anyone see Des Haslers post game interview after the Roosters game

He went through how they didn't complete their sets, dropped the ball too much, made silly errors...
Then at the end he said "nothing we cant fix"

I think we are in a similar boat to be honest. We will turn it around sooner than later

Add or find a spot for Hoppa, Gordon, Gower and Edwards and that is a solid team. Then Foran and Scott are coming. BA won't have any excuses come time next year.

If we don't get Gordon, we really will need a fullback, though. But, other than that, I agree he won't really have any excuses. He thinks Foran is the answer. I don't. Let's wait and see.

He did play for Australia

Yeah, but we've been "trying to fix" it since Round 2 and we've not improved at fixing the issues.
