Round 11 Vs Knights

We are one of, if not the most, predictable one out from the ruck slow hit up teams in the league. The reason we make mistakes is because the defence is up the arse of our playmakers and wide receivers as soon as they dare to look at the ball.

Definately there are some games where Wallace could improve his service.

But I think you are 100% right. Penrith are very slow in the ruck. Their play the balls are infuriatingly slow as well. Mansour does a great job getting to his feet, hopefully everyone follows his lead once he returns.

Watch for the 'settler' tackle inside the opposition 20 this weekend. Big forward charging at the centre of the defence and getting a quick play the ball. Penrith need to execute this way better if our halves have any chance.

He'll play, but he can't beat Penrith on his own. He tried that last time.

The effort from some of those knights was woeful last time we played them. Outside of that game though I think they have been showing up to play, atleast the few times ive watched them I thought so.

Yep, that game was an anomaly for them this year and I doubt it happens again.

Back to the convo a page back. I think our core problem is our starts. We are falling behind early consistently, our forwards have not responded and settled and everyone on the team panics and pushes the play. Id attribute having to chase the game to a good portion of handling errors, pebalties and missed tackles due to the way we are responding. We are a young team and this will happen for a while.

On the other hand we have shown 3/4 times this season that when our forwards are composed, we go forward, we utterly control the game and our halves and backs are effectively uncontainable.

We are not mentally strong yet but if we can put in a good, tight first 20 mins consistently I think that problem can be effectively papered over while the side matures.

Or it might just take Mansour coming back into the side. To me it's becoming increasingly clear that he is as influential to this team as Moylan.

Well thats only close to true because our highly paid rep forwards are soft as f**k. I have no idea how Merrin and Tamou can look their teammates in the face this year.

Neither of them are worth more than 500K even with the recent increases in Salary Cap. Paid big overs for both of them. If any team should be able to 'moneyball' it should be us with our huge junior base, but instead our cheap buys are duds, and our good/very good buys we tend to pay 20-50% more than their true value.

Tamou and Merrin have had good games and overall have put up decent stats, but the value they have offered is poor. On the other end of the spectrum Players like RCG, Yeo are relatively cheap but are putting up good numbers and are excellent value.

I have no doubt that we need experienced 'elite' players to guide the young blokes but as a club we often get this sooo wrong and continue to long after the Elliot era.

It is not uncommon for representative players to experience a 'hangover' after such a long season. I think this is why Merrin probably hasn't been playing quite up to the same level when he was clearly our player of the season in 2016. No such excuses for James Tamou who had a full off season to prepare for 2017 and hasn't as yet delivered on a consistent basis. He is not alone and we have a number of players who haven't delivered any where near what they showed last season.

The wife and I are in Newcastle for the game. Silly me, thinking this was going to be a really good season booked pre paid accommodation in Newcastle prior to the season starting so have no choice but to travel up. I sincerely hope we come away with the two points otherwise we are going to be mighty disappointed.

We should win but I am far from confident. Despite having a far better side on paper and having beaten them convincingly already it pretty much means nothing if we don't show up.

I really like the part about Merrin. His form has starting to pick up the last few weeks so with luck he'll start firing soon.

If they put in a good effort your trip will be worth it :)

Hard to see us losing to Knights. As shit as we have been this year. No way Knights register back to back wins this year.

3 or 4 wins is all they will get this season. They will be spaced out a bit.

This is where the value of having an elite level coach at the club helps. I can guarantee with a Bennett, Hasler or Bellamy in charge, you could pick up Merrin or Tamou for 200k less than what we paid.

Instead we have who we have.

Season defining game this week.

If we win - we've gone back to back, heading into a rep season where we will not be overly represented. Currently we are just 4 points out of the 8 so can save the season from here. Reasonable draw from here for a while - Dogs, Eagles (No Troboyovic), Raiders, and 2 byes. (unless we let the bye's go out to a 20 point lead and we can't reign them back??)

If we lose - we deserve the spoon and the coach deserves the arse......
