This makes me feel quite good. Barrett has stood himself down from the re-signing and retention committee at Panthers.

Still an assistant coach for the 2020, but making sure there isn't a conflict of interest. Dave O'neils words telling

'he's handled it all very professionally'

Sensible action from Trent.

I understand people’s frustrations that Burton isn’t getting game time, if he isn’t going to get time today he’s clearly going to have to wait until there’s an injury in the halves or Luai’s form really drops away. Maybe if Crichton got injured he could be tried at left centre. There’s no other way into the team.

Me I do like the old saying of pick the best players and find a spot for them. I firmly believe Burton belongs somewhere in there. If it doesn't happen that's the club's choice and so be it. We've seen many players come and go in my 30 years and will get over it. Will happily argue the point till he's either picked or released though lol.

Good news. Very mature attitude.

As far as I am aware, this is a public forum, so therefore I can, and will, have my say.
It's a class above Facebook though. People here have some inkling how things work, particularly in team selections, and more particularly in a team that wins every week.

One of the two will leave the club, maybe not next year but soon after. They’re both good enough to be starters in the NRL, no way Luai hangs around to be a backup.

I don’t see it that way. Why can’t we retain both? It just balancing the books and getting the best bang for the buck under the $10M salary cap or whatever figure it happens to be.

I do understand the point you are making but in a season or two Burton may be to big for the halves and may end up a ball playing lock.

Mansour let a try in. He is a liability.
If you are referring to the Don try, Mansour has made the previous tackle right on our line, and was the marker. Crichton needed to cover his wing. It was Crichton's error, and yes there was a bobble in the play the ball anyway.

Mansour made one error in our ingoal which we got away with, otherwise he was solid. He is much too slow to chase Jamal Fogerty, you might as well expect Fisher Harris or Leota to catch him. It's not what he is there for. He's getting on a bit and has had an ACL, after all. Once again, I don't know what happened to Crichton.

You said Luai would be the backup half. I was responding to that.

Luai is 23, he’s not going to hang around to be a backup. If Burton’s future is in the halves, and he’s a better option than Luai, then Luai will leave. It’s that simple.

I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, it’s just the way it is. You can’t keep halves of that quality as a backup.

I am aware of that fact, however, like yourself, I am entitled to my view.

That was on both. Also, Mansour is a far more experienced player than what Crichton is.

Honestly who would want to coach the Panthers. Gotta fit close to 20 - 25 first graders into 17. We wouldn't be having these discussion if not for the Panthers successful development so I'd say it's a positive sign.

Im simply saying I think we will keep both in the short term and most probably Burton may overtake Jerome unless he grows too big and his body demands he fulfills a Wade Graham type role. Either way I see no reason why we can’t or won’t retain both.

There might be some negativity about the performance of certain players and rightly so but I’m just glad we won. I feared a loss considering our outs and the players who came in. Also best start to a season by a Panthers team after 11 rounds so can’t complain. People can easily forget that most people tipped us to miss the 8 back in March.

We might retain both, but it’s going to be harder than you think. Some clubs are basically going to offer a starting spot to them, that’s going to hold a lot of appeal.

Bellamy and Robinson have both been unhappy after wins. It's only fans who say you are obligated to shut up and be happy after winning. I'm loving being 1st and the new attitude of the team. It's a much more mature club this year. I'm also one of the only people to predict Nathan's success. It's wonderful but doesn't exclude wanting to be better.

Nathan himself said the last 3 games have been disappointing. So atleast they aren't in delusions

Mansour makes a try saving tackle on the goalline and the try on the next play is his fault? Now I've heard everything.

Anyway I think that was a decent win. We were down nearly half our starting 17 and the Titans played about as well as they have all year. I would have liked to smash them but it's not always going to go that way. Never felt like we were really in trouble, even when the score was close. Thought our middle really won it for us, which makes sense given the outs in our spine and edges.

Just on the bench, I don't think a bench that gets low minutes is a huge handicap for us for a few reasons. First we have quite a few forwards who play big big minutes (specifically JFH, Yeo, Kikau and Martin) reducing the need for bench minutes. Second, this group of players has (most of the time) been immensely fit. Third, our middle almost always holds together very well (as it did today). Given these factors having a bench spot covering for injury only isn't that big a deal. Sucks for Burton but I'm sure he went into the game knowing his role and would have been well aware he might not get a run.

Hopefully we get a fair few troops back for Manly. We'll need to be better up there at Brookie.
