Round 13 vs The Green Machine

I do understand we are talking about a player considered worthy of being 18th man for the Maroons for SOO so clearly he has qualities?

Having said that, if we are at full strength there isn’t a spot for him. Spencer can play middle or on the edge. Jack likewise. Yes I would pick Capewell in front of Billy but not in front of any of our current forwards who have got us to where we are.

He shouldn’t get picked on reputation and has basically contributed nothing for us thus far albeit injury has been the issue.

I support the players who have been doing the job for us and I don’t want to see them discarded for a player who has yet to do anything for us.

Leniu has only played 4 games as well, he’s hardly “got us where we are”

The team has changed a lot during this winning run.

I'm in the minority on Martin. I see a decent first grader, one who hits hard which is his biggest strength. He isn't an automatic selection in my best 17. Though I'd have him over Burns.

Capewell is a superior defender. Also versatile as he can play centre (Martin/Kikau aren't good options at centre and Yeo's days at centre are almost gone if not already). I like the look of a Cleary/Capewell combination.

Also worth noting that Capewell has started in all 3 games for the Panthers. His signing had everyone scratching their heads last year ('We need a centre/winger not a backrower'). I highly doubt he was brought in to Penrith to ride the pine. Cleary wanted to plug a hole.

I see Liam Martin as an outstanding talent and I would pick him front of Capewell but our coach is in a better place than me to judge when Capewell if fit to return.

If he goes with Capewell in front of Martin well he knows better than me.

Mate, don’t make a point just to disagree or cross paths with me because you think I am a f**kwit.

Seriously we are having a conversation and clearly Leniu hasn’t got us to where we are, I never said he did.

The conversation was around Capewell and whether he should be part of our top 17 upon his return to fitness

True.

And by that logic, Fangs will know better than Kilkenny ;)

It’s limited game time, but I’d have Leniu above Leota on the bench. Leniu offers genuine X factor. He’s averaging over 10 meters per run. Leota is doing well at 9.6m a run, but I just feel Leniu can offer more impact.

I agree but there is talk about Leniu's motor. Sure its only 15-20 minutes but if a middle forward goes down at the 20th minute we might be in trouble. You also have to consider the experience Leota brings. I think those two things will make Cleary pick Leota.

At least we know why Tamou hasn't been given a big deal. Leniu is a big part of our plans for 2021 onwards. I think he will end up the best of our current bunch and is our most dynamic prop.

Absolutely!!!

I have been accused on here of somehow stifling opinions or conversations.

I think it is unwarranted because my position has always been and always will be the head coach knows better than us as fans so when Ivan version 1, Griffin, or Ivan version 2 makes decisions around team selections who I am to question it?

I am really enjoying what I am seeing currently around our side, we all are, and I just don’t see a spot for Capewell if and when he gets himself fit again That could change very quickly although I hope not and we get no injuries any time soon.

I made a post probably two years ago based on something told to me by a person inside our club.

Moses had been picked as part of the emerging Blues Squad and it was suggested to me the only thing that will prevent him from going to the next level is having his strength coached out of him.

Well maybe he was never quite SOO level but his strengths have been coached out of him given we rarely if ever see the off loads which were such a big part of his game before NRL. Just hit it up and get a quick play the ball, no risks or second phase allowed.

Yeah but I think that is a prerequisite. No need to state that position.

Anyone on here who suggests they know better than a first grade coach should go for the job. Quite a few positions up for grabs in 2021. The reality is that fans aren't even fit to run the water out.

It’s interesting particularly given the RCG situation. Our former GM expressed the view when he re-signed RCG he was going to be the best front rower in the game. I frankly was sceptical even before his serious injuries and yet here we are down the track and RCG playing 80 minutes running for over 200 metres most games, 40-50 tackles and arguably is now the best front rower in the game.

Well for mine on form Capewell doesn’t make the 17. Played what two games.

Jack way in front of Capewell for mine.

Capewell was almost in SOO last year. Has played semi finals. Can play wing, Centre, 2nd row and Lock. No way he doesn't play come finals time

Yeah I was thinking about it now and I guess he makes the bench. I just keep trying to fit in Leinu but that isn't going to happen with our middle forwards.

I still see Capewell>Martin.

Me too. I think Capewell starts on the bench but I can't see him not start come finals time

If he wasn’t good enough to make the starting side for the Sharks then what has he done to warrant a starting spot in our pack.

When he does recover from his latest injury I don’t see him displacing any of our current best 17 and for mine he would be behind Jack as well when he returns.

It was between him and Mybe to play SOO 3 last year. Sharks had Nikora and Graham both international backrowers. We have a very raw backrower in Martin so not same situation

The point I was making had nothing to do with my feelings towards you, Kilkenny.

My point was simple. Not all the the current 17 have been there for the whole winning run, dropping Leniu wouldn’t be harshly treating him. He’s not an automatic selection in front of a 65 game, specialist second rower.

Leinu was making 60m runs in lower grades.

When we hit the important games Yeo/JFH will play 60mins+. The bench edge will get 30mins or so. Leaves Leinu to just go nuts in a short stint much better at that role than Leota

Though knowing us we will have a stack of injuries by then

That is why we bought Capewell and Tetevano

My full strength team, no injuries.

1. Edwards
2. Mansour (just in front of Staines b/c of experience for finals)
3. Crichton
4. Naden
5. To’o
6. Luai
7. Cleary
8. JFH
9. Apisai
10. Tamou
11. Kikau
12. Martin
13. Yeo
14. May
15. Capewell
16. Leniu
17. Tetevano

if Staines had a good run of 3-4 games before To’o is back, the panthers he might’ve unseated Mansour. But I can’t see us bringing him in for the finals now without an injury.
