“We had a sit down and chat about coming back and displaying why you got chosen in Origin is important to the team and yourself and your family and your friends,” McGregor said. “Post-Origin tests your character, just from past experience. You can’t get comfortable with what you’re done, it what you’re about to do."

This is really great. Fire them up Mary!

This is a big tick for Millward in my opinion. He’s done a fantastic job with the roster and set us up for long term success in the future with all our key players locked up and a number of youngsters still coming through. We are equal first and we still have cap space and a spot to fill in the roster!

In a time where teams like Manly, the Dogs and Parra have completely screwed their cap and left them in a hole for years to come, we’ve shown how you can correctly manage a cap. Given most on here think our management is a basket case and a mess, I think we’ve proven its not too hard.

Success is now completely reliant on the coaching staff. Mary needs to take advantage of this opportunity Millward has given him.

Agree giboz71, with what you have said , also as OKB1 has mentioned ,Millward has done an excellent job and as you have said it is now up to Mary to use the opportunity presented to him by Millward's hard work .

I do not mean to be be funny when I say this but , our Mary is like a giant toad that is sitting in the middle of the road that flicks its tounge out at anything and everything that shows any glimpse of promise , and then swallows it whole .

Until the bloke realises that he must - must - must blood his juniors into the top grade for a full game then the Dragons most unfortunately will never breathe the fire that they are capable of . And his lack of foresight shall become so evident in the end of season matches .

When other teams will call upon their juniors knowing full well that they will do the job at hand , perhaps not because that they are more skilful players , but quite simply because they have the match experience .

Mentioned it previously, Souths and Penrith have shown how you can use your extended squad to your advantage. We haven't had any major injuries meaning we can keep starting the same 13, but the fear is player burnout and more long term injuries.

Given we are top 4 in ISP as well as FG, this shows we have depth and quality in our reserves so well done to recruitment. At least 5 or 6 guys in ISP can slot in. Sele, Host, Lawrie, Field, Lomax and Luc have already had a taste. Against the weaker teams in particular, we need to be using some of these guys to spell our starters.

The table is
Mounties on 18 points
Magpies on 18 points
Dragons on 18 points
panthers on 17
Panthers, mounties and magpies have had a bye
Sorry dragonsamy, no matter how I look at it, it says we are coming 4th. We may have had more wins than anybody but at the moment we are 4th. That may change in the future with a bye or two but at the moment, I read us as 4th - that's what the table says.

Dragons 2018: Graham ready for showdown with former club
Dragons Den News

FIRED UP: James Graham will play his first game against the Bulldogs on Monday after being off-loaded at the end of last season. Picture: AAP

If you looked into James Graham’s eyes before a clash with a former club five years ago you might have thought you’d won a feature on the pokies. Against a club that let him go after six years loyal service - jackpot.

These days however, the once volatile Englishman keeps that famous passion in check. Still, as coach Paul McGregor said on Sunday, Graham will have and “extra spring in his step” against the Bulldogs on Monday.

"Everyone has a point to prove, playing against their old club, and he got moved on,” McGregor said.

“We were in the right place at the right time to pick up such a quality person. He's a leader of men, a player that came into our organisation that knows how to win and knows how to show the way.

“He plays with passion and purpose. He talks the talk and walks the walk."

Dragons skipper Gareth Widdop agrees, but says his longtime England Test teammate now walks the thin red line with precision without letting emotion boil over.

“He's fired up each and every week he takes the field, it's just the way he goes about his business,” Widdop said.

“It's just the way he is as an individual, he's very, very passionate, we've all seen it. He's changed his ways a little bit.

“It's a bit different from being at the Dogs where he was the captain. I played with him for England and he hasn't been the captain so he's probably not under that pressure.

"He still has his moments, which is great, he snaps which is quite funny, but he's been great for us.

“Jammer's one of those individuals where it's just another game for him and he'll be going out there to do it to the best of his ability and play to our standards.

“Although it's against his former club, and it's always exciting playing against your old teammates, it's about a team performance, not going out there and doing anything silly.”

Along with fellow big name recruit Ben Hunt, Graham has had a transformative effect on the club for which he was a late pick-up after being off-loaded by the Bulldogs.

He proved the first casualty of a salary cap mess still plaguing the club, with Moses Mbye and Aaron Woods both tipped to exit the club before the season’s out.

While the 32-year-old has had a clear impact on the club’s young forwards, fullback Matt Dufty said it’s something that been felt right across the squad.

“Jammer’s one of the most competitive people I’ve ever met and he’ll definitely come out and play one of his best games on Monday,” Dufty said.

“In preseason there were times where we’d run though some sets and we’d kick it dead and all the boys would be annoyed but he just sprinted back to the 30 [metre-line].

“People notice things like that and, by the end of preseason, everyone was sprinting back to the 30 if we were kicking it dead.

“He’s definitely rubbed off on the whole team. None of the forwards want to get left behind when he’s out there doing extras and it’s good for the team to have someone out there like that.”

Game day!
Finally.
Let's do this Dragons. Time for the next chapter. The origin phase.
Pre origin we get a massive tick. Lets now aim for 4 wins from 6 games through this period I say then deal with the post origin run to the finals after that.
Screw those dogs! Victory or walk home boys!

Sort of understand now why McGregor has pushed the panic button and included state of origin players for today's game. If you look at the current ladder it's becoming a traffic jam and we need to win this game today to avoid how usual dive into the abyss.
Technically we are currently in third spot as the rabbits have a bye in hand. I win today not only puts us on top but gives us breathing room for future games. Next week several teams below us will cannibalize each other therefore making the gap between the top eight and the bottom eight even wider. A loss today really puts us amongst the pack and we will start to scramble like in previous years.

22 - Panthers
20 - Dragons, Warriors, Rabbits (bye in hand)
18 - Storm, Roosters (bye in hand), Sharks (bye in hand)
16 - Broncos

Todays game and the one against Manly next week will really shape our season. Losses to both will place us precariously in the bottom half of the 8 and groundhog day begins again.

We must win if we are serious contender.

Panthers beat Raiders
Sharks beat Tigers
Storm beat Broncos
Warriors beat Manly
Roosters beat Knights
Souths beat Titans

The top teams find a way to win without several of their players.

Every top team beat those underneath them.

We need to do the same.

If we do not get the win today, the slide will begin.

Tip. Saints by 14.
