But now we're under the cap (with Foran injured too) and still winning. That's how strong are the other 24 players we've been able to put around Foran.

Probably also helps that we aren't paying overs to reserve graders/backups and not paying as many players to play else where

Hayne is worth more, meaning the amount of overs paid for him (as a percentage of his value) is likely to be more. On top of that Foran is a leader.
Hayne is worth more but was on less then what we are now paying Foran. We could always afford Hayne, we couldn't afford all the overpaid Plodders and reserve graders we were paying overs too.

If we are to beat the sharks, we really need to sort out our kicking game. Was below par last night because it was easy to pressure our sole kick option Normz.

Yeh I agree, we looked good in the second half last night but geez Souffs were shit, big difference between them and the Sharkies

We are probably far enough under the cap to add Hayne in place of Gordon now....

570k full year breach. Told to shed that as half year salaries. Did so. Also lost Jr. Let Gordon go to the chooks and where are we?

(Reported numbers)
Watmough 850
Peats 500
Jr 180
Gordon 200

Add back 570
Add back 240 to fill other 3 spots
Leaves over a mill

So you could then argue we were able to surround Hayne with a great supporting cast?

Might have more to do with the talent spotters and decision of coaches?

Like I said, the cap is half a million more now. Hayne would have been on a much higher percentage of the cap than Foran is right now. The proof is the balance of the squad.

You can't have it both ways. If we were overpaying everybody while Hayne was here then we were overpaying Hayne. If we are overpaying Foran now then we're overpaying everyone else still.

We could always afford Hayne, we couldn't afford all the overpaid Plodders and reserve graders we were paying overs too.

You need to sign 25 players and some of them need to be reserve graders. If you're spending most of your cap on your top couple of players, more of that 25 will need to be reserve graders. Now we've got Foran we can afford to have fewer reserve graders in our top 25. While Hayne was here we couldn't.

But maybe you're right. Maybe it's just a massive coincidence.

Those talent spotters are responsible for some of our best (and likely best value) talent.

Yep, Souths have turned to shit this year.

Signing big marquee Sam seems to have unbalanced their squad somewhat?

Don't forget last nights win was without our starting centres, half back and both props ( yes Paulo has gone but we haven't replaced him yet).

So it was a pretty good effort.

In the post match press conference, BA blamed himself for the 2 losses when the fines etc were handed down, said he changed training and we paid for that

Again said , we'll be right, when questioned about points deduction . Good leader

I doubt we would have won against the Storm in any case, particularly once Beau Scott went off after 10 minutes and Foran after about 30 minutes.

I don't think it's any coincidence that the only period that we really looked like getting beaten last night was the 8 minutes before half time and the first 20 minutes of the second half, which was the 28 minute period that Beau Scott was off the field.

Yep, Beau's presence seems to keep everyone on their toes.

He's a real leader - something we haven't had for a long time.
