This also exposes just how poor our middle players really are, except for Browb though

I do agree - we attack through our edges, so when one of our edges forwards is out, we have to go through the middle.

Problem is that our middle is not great carting the ball up.

Long term we're still not going to go anywhere when all we have in the middle is Brown, Brown, Brown, Brown, Brown and Brown
He was out of gas the last 20mins but the mad merkin just kept going.

Tonight showed with Mau out and Edwards in la la land we struggle to make metres up the middle and our edge forwards can't bail us out forever.

Evans is nowhere near enough, and a plodder like Gubb isn't going to help matters.

Firstly, the Dogs are WOEFUL and most other teams would've beaten us easily in that second half.

I just think our middle isnt good enough to get us out of trouble. That seven tackle set at the end of the game is a case in point.

Our ability to kick long and find some grass most of the time kept us in the game
It was the main reason we beat St George as well.

Look, Mannah is becoming a worry. I love the bloke, but whether it's injury or he's just one of those guys that drop off a cliff as footy players, he's been poor.

But otherwise, Alvaro made 41 tackles, Brown 43, Moeroa 41/Gower 23 (both spent time in the middle and on the edge), King 27, Smith 24, Mannah 26 and Matagi 16. Edwards also made 42 and definitely a chunk of those were in field from the back row position.

Our middle did a f**k ton of work defensively....it's no wonder they were cooked in that second half. The Dogs sent a hell of a lot of traffic up the middle and honestly we did well to keep Kasiano under 100m and to keep noted metre eaters like Klemmer and Tolman to low 100s.

I thought Matagi had a great game personally. 100m off the bench in a game like that is excellent

I agree that defensively the middle was good, but how good would their defence have been if it was the Roosters with all that ball in the second half instead of the Dogs.

Teams who make f**k all ground out of their own end like that don't go to well agaisnt decent opposition.

I could be wrong but I thought it was his first run too which seems unusual that he wouldn't have a run in the first 12

Well that grubby win keeps us in the 8 and those 2 points could see us playing finals footy.

We just aren't a team that can blow a team away, our middle forwards don't dominate so we aren't constantly getting a roll on providing our halves with time and space.

I thought both their kicking games under the circumstances were excellent.

Can we all just take a second to mention the continuous marching off the mark the dogs did and the so called "quick play the balls" which were more like tunnel ball through they're legs? They were playing f**king touch footy at times, they barely even play it and take a few steps forward to eliminate the marker but never get pulled up for it, I was at the game and it was blatantly obvious.

Some of the work around the ruck they were doing was a joke.

We'll blow someone away this year. I'll put a beer at the new stadium on it. Only with you but, I'm not made of money....

We have the strike to do it. The problem with a side like the Dogs is they drag you down to their level and muck you out of the game

Yep even vave would have been useful tonight, happy to see matagi stand up. If by some miracle we make the finals, we will be fodder for the continual reliance on the back row and backs

They have been doing that all year walk off the mark or to the side, to take out the markers or make the markers look offside then tunnel ball to get a quick play the ball. Refs are totally f**ked

Matagi was huge the last 10 mins, i think he needs to start with Alvaro. Timmy is an absolute passenger these days, he's trying hard but not offering much at all. We seriously need to recruit some muscle up front next season to lay a platform for Moses and Norman. Because they can win us plenty of games.

I disagree. We have plenty of size to return before the finals that weren't playing tonight and if our halves can maintain that standard of kicking, that alone will keep us in most matches.

I can't understate how impressed I was with our kicking game tonight.

Hope you are right Baz, starting next week with those purple merkins.
