I compare Staines to Addo-Carr or Papenhuyzen size wise. Both were slow burns and look at them now
Staines took on Sivo and won where guys like Tedesco got murdered. I'm not worried about him physically honestly. He has a toughness and skill that belies his appearance.

The nsw cup team is awesome to watch. With Burton there it is really not fair plus Falls is converting everything 100 percent so far this season. After a full year of nsw cup Tago snd May will be looking for a debut in 2022. Turuva probably has some work to do on his game but his running ability and strength for his age is exceptional. Tago also has pretty awesome strength they were both coming up with tackle breaks and post contact metres yesterday. I can see why Tago got promoted over Turuva though, with the ball in hand he just looks a bit more polished.

Turuva definitely looks a bit raw but has so much potential as a damaging runner. @franklin2323 was pretty on point I think.

TBH, I think Kurt Falls has been playing more of a role in their success than Burto. I’ve been really impressed with his game management.

Lets see how Ado Carr goes for the Dogs. Plenty of guys look great in super teams. There are days where your side wins by two points and most players look good. But had they lost by two point the mind notices 3 or 4 guys who played poor. Reality is they had the same game.

JAC is fast. But he also turns 26 this year. The Dogs will get him at age 27-30.
It isn't old but if he slows down a little he becomes just an average NRL winger. I've seen plenty of backs who hit the 28yrs old and they just lose that acceleration. But then others like Slater seemed to keep it their whole career. He also benefited playing with some of the greatest ever players who knew how to exploit his strengths.

It will be good for the NRL if the dogs go well or atleast improve. They have been down at the bottom for to long. The issue they have is all of the signings they have made are costing $$ It means other clubs will be able to poach their young guys a lot easier.

Hahaha what a pathetic comment. Absolute dribble.

To even suggest he didn't care if we didn't get past week 2 is complete lunacy.

That's not an opinion that's just a trashy comment that has zero substance
So where's your substance?

He hit the place mid-2011, saying it would take 5 years to get things sorted. In the 5 years before he arrived, the club averaged 45% wins and made the finals once, winning 0 from 2 finals. In the last five years he was here (up to 2018) the club won 55% and made the finals 4 times, winning one and losing one final in each year. They went from around 10th as an average finish to 5th or 6th.

If you listen to his podcast enough you will hear him say with his own lips that he believes it better to have sustained finals appearances than win a premiership one year and miss the finals every other year. Thus he considers himself a success at Panthers and most others would too, I expect.

Haha Gus wasn't the coach you goose. He may have missed the mark a few times with resigning blokes etc. But one thing he got spot on was putting the emphasis back on junior development, the creation of the academy and country development paths.

Basically every junior we have brought through in the team now was part of the structures Gus put in place and were nutured by him.

Before he got here our team had hardly any juniors. Now everyone bar a few in 17 is. Coincidence... definitely not.

Without Gus the club wouldn't be where it is today. To say otherwise is stupid. His passion for the panthers and the younger blokes was more than most will know.

Had the privilege of hearing Gus speak at a few corporate nights and he honestly got emotional with how much he loved the club and nurturing the young kids.

Penrith is a development club..that is how we have always had success. So why should Staines be thrown to the wolves?

Yes he has talent, but talent only gets you so far. Just don't want to see the kid burnout and lose confidence because his been thrown in the deep end.

As I said, say what you want about Gus but his junior development and emphasis on that was top notch and has got the club to where we are at today.

You directly referenced a *coaching* method. Bringing a player into FG and then dropping him back down.

Of course Gus did great things for the club, especially in junior development. But I’d question the tactic of deliberately giving guys a taste of FG and then dropping them back down. If they’re good enough they should stay in FG.

Denying Gus' impact on this club is for undergraduates. He turned us around and no narrative will ever undermine that.

As for Staines, ask Gus if he should be dropped.

I wasn’t denying Gus impact on the club, he did some great stuff here. But the policy of deliberately rotating players back to NSW cup is a nonsense, if someone is good enough, they’re old enough.

We’ve just signed the kid on a big dollar multi year contract, he’s not playing NSW cup unless his form is terrible. Much more likely is Naden won’t be retained.

We did from 2022 onwards. Like with keeping Burton the aim this year should be winning the comp. If that includes him great if not he will get better

Read my posts. Never do I say deliberately rotate back down. And that is not what they have done. They put players back down who needed more development.

Losing last year was a killer. The 10 odd games he would of had in NSW Cup would of been a blessing for guys like him

Haha ok Frog your right.

Gus never wanted to win a comp at Penrith. He turned up to work, driving all the way from the nth shore up the m4, put his everything in to save the club, but couldn't be arsed to win another comp. Just rocked up to Panthers to go through the motions everyday. Hahaha.

Been reading this forum for 15 years and before that PI.

That's the dumbest comment I can remember.
