Yeah. They went shit halfway through 2011 when Bennett announced he was leaving for Newcastle and signed half the squad. You’re a bit of a glass half empty kind of guy me thinks.
No just a realist

For all the commentary around how sluggish, boring, unimaginative, clueless we are now compared to all the effusiveness surrounding 2010’s beautiful flowing attack the difference is 4 points per game over the entire season and it needs to be remembered that we did hand out a couple of flogging’s back in 2010.

We were lucky in 2010 in that we had real speed and some truly wonderful individual performances from a number of players but for all of that 4 points per game more than where we are at right now and we have no speed and very very few wonderful individual performances other than Hunt

Hook has a very ordinary lot compared to what Bennett had.

I have no qualms re the arguments concerning our piss week defence but if we had the 2010 defence now would it be enough to make our attack palatable after all it’s only 4 points less per game than our premiership winning team?

Yes absolutely correct, then when Coach told the team he was leaving, that deflated them to a point that they lost their desire. That’s how much Coach has influence on his footy side, they couldn’t get over he was leaving them.
Would the reverse work in that our players will be really happy and win games if Hook told the players that he would be leaving? Hahaha!

So BBQ gate was well and truly around in 2011 despite how good Bennett was as a man manger / mentor / coach.

Don’t get me wrong I loved that we won but for all of the love Bennett gets and all the hate Hook gets I think we need to be a bit more reasonable and analytical in our assessment of the man that gave us Chinless and if not mistaken his gift to the Broncos was Henjak

IMO Bennett has been well and truly kissed on the pecked with all the talent he has had at his fingertips and his influence on poor rosters is pretty bloody average.

Bennett brought in the likes of Weyman, Boyd and Costigan to an already good team. He made a good team better. Meanwhile Hook has brought in the likes of Sharon, Moga and Burgess to a team that was already shit. You really can’t say that Bennett was lucky. He made a good team better whilst Hook has made a bad team even worse.

Some great points, OT.

Bennett hasn't coached a team to a premiership victory since 2010.

But dare anyone say that Bennett has lost touch with the modern game.

Bennett signs Milford to the Dolphins but dare anyone say he signs has beens from the junk pile.

We got the experienced coach from outside the system everyone was yearning for but that's not anywhere near good enough for anyone anymore it seems.

We haven't been successful in Hook's first two seasons in charge so the consensus on here seems to be let's shuffle the deck chairs around again, shall we?

After a decade of underwhelming signings and non existent pathways for juniors, it's going to be a long journey out of it, no matter who the coach is.

how can you have anything bad to say about Bennett? It’s not his fault our team only offered him 3 years when he wanted 5. He’s had all that talent available because all those talented players wanted to play for him. What players want to play for Hook? Washed up 30 something players that other teams don’t want. And remember. We were dumb enough to sign Chinless, and Mary after that, and Brown before Bennett

So for all if that 4 points per game in attack.

If not mistaken in 2010 we had the worst attack out of the top 9 teams.

We tackled our way to the premiership in 2010

So what’s wrong with that? They won the GF FFS! If what you’re saying about our attack is true, and today’s team was defending their assess off and winning games, what would the issue be? What exactly do you want? The 2010 team to have scored more points and win the GF more convincingly?

Look I can only speak on what happened during that time and the influence of coaching, the players that were recruited, the assistant coaches and the team already there, the team brought into Coach’s ideas, plans to create a belief in themselves to win a comp. They failed in 2009, they should have won, 2010 better mindset and coaching 2011 they were left flat.
what ever you think of what Coach is, from 2009 to 2011 changed the way the Dragons played footy, very similar to Harry Bath in many ways back in the 77, 78,79.

They conceded 12 pts a game in 2010. That’s unbelievable
Indeed that is 100% correct and the true reason we won the comp

My issue is with the constant bagging of our current attack compared to the “free flowing beauty of Bennett’s 2010 team”

We never saw the true potential of the 2010 squad and that IMO is a tragedy

Our defence was so so good that it should have released all the shackles on our attack but we persisted with block plays and relied on individual brilliance for a highlights real

You have a point regarding Hook.

After all, these are the only issues with his coaching in two years:
-He has failed to implement an effective attack
-He has failed to implement an effective defence
-He has failed to mentor juniors
-He has failed to implement any form of gameplan

Other than the above, he has done a stirling job

Yeah but think of the good he has done for McCulloch, McGuire, Woods, Mbye retirement funds, they are sailing into the sunset 🌅

Question: was the attack better in 2010?
