Bryce should be focusing on his defence getting that right not learning how to be a half, even TMM would an upgrade over him defensively.
This sort of quote drives me crazy. What are the facts you are using for this statement? His season missed tackle percentage is as good as most 5/8ths in the NRL. He started the season coming back from a bad injury and was out of form and he did miss lots of tackles. He was playing 80 minutes in the back row and it took time for him to adjust.

From round 10 onwards his missed tackle percentage is better than any other 5/8th in the NRL. His missed tackle percentage is better than the current NSW 5/8th and Qld 5/8th. His missed tackle percentage in the last five rounds is 6%. Nearly half that of Cooper Cronk. Miles better than James Maloney. Why do people persist in slagging off a 21 year old rookie who has visibly improved as the season has gone on after surviving a horror leg injury. Who is playing out of position to help the team and has stats that other players could only dream of. If you are going to attack him, use some data and give a balanced analysis.

I thought the same, maybe a bit of positive stuff to join in on. But no, much of the same.... ehhhhh.

Well I know for a fact I had positives in my post - There were a lot of positives out of last night - Some not so as well.

Not really disagreeing, but given Bryce's size, you'd think he'd be more effective at tackling than a regular 5/8 wouldn't you?

It was reasonably positive (with a few exceptions) before the fights about people bitching.

The fact he keeps missing simple tackles to let it tries might be something to do with it. Even when we play well like last night and against the broncos he comes up with piss poor efforts on our own line to let players over. He tried to shirt grab Boyd 3m off the try line ffs. At the very best his defence isn't improving. What was that attempt on Cordner last night it looked like he let him run through him? Considering his size he should be effective in a tackle where he runs straight up and hits him with his shoulder, he wasn't beaten with speed or footwork just a straight hard run and Cordner went through like a piece of wet paper. He should be getting used to handling a backrowers defensive workload, as you said it is an adjustment.

Oh ffs Boo hoo cry me a river, its a forum as long as people are on topic they can say what they want. All the whinging about what other people post just clogs the forum up and turns it into the current shit fight.

So a backrower is almost as good defensively as most halves? That means his defence is improving does it? lol you blokes are kidding yourselves. Its well noted halves are usually the weakest defenders in the team.

It was fun watching Fergo get try and catch those kicks from Cleary the guy looks so uncomfortable catching bombs its not funny.

I think Bryces defence will be getting towards acceptable for a second rower when he moves back there. He is missing less tackles but is still getting beaten all ends up by fast backs.

I think the last 4 weeks we have shown much better defensive commitment in long patches and just need to find some consistency. Our attack is looking so much better. Those sweeping backline plays we ran a lot on the left hand side are where we need to be. That's where Moylan is at his best. Four on four with Moylan/Cartwright in a bit of space and we cause issues every time.

Blake is really growing in confidence. He is a sight to behold in space and is starting to figure out how to be effective in first grade.

Yeo needs a wrap. Defensive sponge and improving line runner. Merrin has seriously hit his stride. Wallace deserves props as well. He was absolutely smashed twice in about 2 minutes, got up and made some really heads up plays.

Lastly Cleary is some talent. The perfect spiral bomb, pinpoint long kicking, takes on the line, committed in defence. Kid could be anything.

Edit: rewatching Peachey try that Cleary laid on I just can't stop smiling. His vision and composure to sum up what 5 defenders and 2 team mates were doing and then execute a very difficult skill mind bogglingly well.. Wow.

I think we are actually seeing a lot of pieces of the puzzle fall into place at the moment. Consistency week to week and 80 minute effort is a long way off i feel but the squad is starting to get a feel for what each other can do and how to work a side over. We have a great opportunity coming out of a breakout game for our attack to really build confidence and combinations this week and get some momentum for the final run home.

Not so long ago many of this forum were crying out for Carty to 5/8, Peachy to 5/8 had many admirers as well. The experiment with Cartwright, while not always a disaster, has proved he is a 'stop gap' and when a better option becomes available or is fit and well then he can go back to his rightful best position. No big deal. Coach Griffin was forced into a no win situation, yes he could have picked Moylan there or at least given him a game or two, but I can tell you straight from the mouth of a certain person in power at our club is they believe he (Moylan) is best suited in the number 1 and that is NOT going to change. So yes to can all bang on about Moylan to 5/8 blah blah blah but take a tip from old Kilkenny it is not going to happen anytime soon and unlikely to happen ever while he remains at our club.

On a side issue, something which seems to have been forgotten, is we achieved a pretty good win last night which kept our finals hopes alive. It was a danger game, they probably all are, but a good win even if the Roosters were without there best player in Mitchell Pearce. I think there were more positives than negatives, and yes is was probably disappointing to concede those two late tries but given most of wins this season have been by the odd point or two this was a win to savour beating the old enemy.

The positive nature of our victory will surely give us confidence to finish the job off and secure the victories needed for us to sneek into the top eight.

Yeah I said this when he scored but ill say it again, Yeo is quietly becoming a very good player. Runs great lines and bends the line back now, he has good speed as shown last night. He might be our best defensive forward already and he is 21 and played over 50 games already.

most sets with the ball we actually look likely to score far better then previous years. What pleases me is we aren't being scored on from poor reads. Just poor one on one misses means the line is set and working together

Akauola and Grems are looking to be smart signings. Both change momentum as soon as they come on. I thought Grems would be a perfect edge backrower for us, but with Yeo doing a great job on the edge, Grems looks tremendous punching in behind the ruck and getting us a quick play the ball every time.

While its depth isn't a bad thing, we're going to have a serious log jam of front rowers next year. Something/someone has to give.

Agree re Grevs in the middle, he looks very good there and his defence is much better as well. He struggled with the faster guys out wide. Just said the same thing about Sitaleki in he other thread as well.

Re our front rowers id say Mckendry and Lats might drop out of the rotation next season, potentially Matagi as well.

Crikey, imagine what it would be like in here if we lost. We really are a bunch of grumpy arses and I include myself in that since I got sucked into to arguing about Carty. ACT is spot on. A bit of old fashioned military brutality is required. Clear the air, black eyes and split lips all round. Move on, nothing to see here.
