Round 22 v Plucked chooks

And while I'm at it. Cartwright had a good game and has copped so much abuse on here. The wowsers will point out the failed kicks and the knock on from Cartwright (Cleary did one too) and his mistakes, but I don't mind mistakes in attack because when we played with more control early in the season we couldn't score and lost game after game. We are starting to show real creativity now.

Cartwright run for 120m made 20 tackles, missed 1, scored a try, made a try and had 5 offloads. According to some people he is rubbish at 5/8th. His season stats are:
5 tries, 7 try assists, 6 line breaks, 9 line break assists, 41 tackle breaks and 56 offloads.

But he is rubbish in defence?
He has made 532 tackles (the 3rd most at Penrith) and missed 59. For rounds 1 to 10 , his missed tackle percentage (35 on 281 tackles) was 12.45%. For rounds 11 to 22 (still 10 rounds with the two byes), it was 9.2% (25 on 271). In the last five rounds his percentage is 6.2% (7 on 113). He is improving as the season has gone on. In my view he is doing a good job of filling in at 5/8th by working with Moylan and reducing his miracle plays. He doesn't deserve the opprobrium he get's on here.

Its Griffin whos crap. Not Carty's fault hes playing at 5/8

Hooks been ok. New halves. New hooker . Lost both starting centres, sitting in top 8.
Can only imagine this team be twice as strong next year.
Plenty of coaches having to make this many changes in their first year at a team wouldnt finish higher then 12th and call it a rebuilding year.
Ivan had a more stable team last season.

I'm going to have a few extra beers tonight. I love watching the Roosters get spanked by any team, but when its your own team, that's gold. Even better when it's done with a bit of style.

That win was a great Griffin master plan. Before the game,I've never seen him as animated when he was addressing the players before they went into the game. And to prove how much this side buys into Griffin's influence, they owned the second half as if they were re-born.

Takes a great coach to get the best out of a side after an indifferent 1st half.

There will be no changes for next week's side other than unforeseen injury.

The side that got the job done tonight will almost certainly back up against the knights.

Yes, this was not an 80 minute performance, only 60 at best bit we got the job done and improved our differential by 20 (should or could have been more).

I wasn't sure what to expect tonight and sure we benefited from Mitchell Pearce being ruled out but we got to the job done and that was very pleasing.

Nice to stay in contention and really need to go on with the good work next weekend at the Knights. No letting up. Must win and win well.

happy to get the 2 points & to gain more confidence with our attack. we will always come up with errors as we actually try & play football unlike some of the other more robotic sides. the very comforting thing moving forward is that Cleary is that composed & mature player that balances the overall team - more credit needs to go to Griffin for blooding him this year!

other observations:
* glad that we could come up with that performance without having to rely on Mansour & Latu contributions
* re Grevs & Akauola - they do really add something off the bench - good to see Grevs starting to deliver on the promise - great go-forward, defence & quick PTB's. agree he looks good in the middle
* very happy with Yeo - just like Cleary, he shows the maturity & composure (especially in defence) for such a young guy - getting better & better - looking forward to watching his development
* Blake looking good when he winds up - agreed he needs to work out when to run & when to pass
* still unsure about DWZ - definitely a better game this week but hold my breath every time he runs the ball

we cannot be complacent vs the Knights next week - we took the foot off the throat for the last 20 today - easy to do when that far in front but those leads are rare, especially for us!

I also agree with drafting in TMM this week - perhaps for Hardaker?

No need to make changes in my opinion. TMM will remain in the NSW Cup.

The side that got the job done tonight should surely feature against the Knights.

Idiots. Cartwright needs to be running at the line either 1 or 2 passes from the ruck. Until that happens, we will be losers.

Cartwright had poor first but a great second.Better suited at second row where runs wider and doesnt force play as much. Cartwright hitting half holes one on one is almost impossible to defend with a nice ball from his half or moylan.

Exactly. He barely played as a half in the second 40 and was so much better. Any time he tries to do a typical half's job, he f**ks it up.

Cartwright in the halves playing both sides, Grevsmuhl in the middle and no RCG and the attack takes care of itself. Just Blake and DWZ need to sort out their depth positioning on the end of the backline. Defense is still f**ked.

Good solid game. Wish we didn't take out foot of their throat but still a good 60 min effort. Our bench is outstanding. Obvious now why we have a back on the bench, an extra forward would get 0 minutes, so we may as well put a back on the bench to cover any unexpected injury.

The people criticising Griffin would have more credibility if they criticised him when it was warranted and gave an explanation rather than every game bringing out the same 'but, but, our coach is shit'... 'Cartwright isn't a 5/8th....' Even when our tactics were spot on and Cartwright played well.

Cartwright had as many bad touches in the first half as he did good ones in the second half. Playing him at 6 makes him force things and its killing attacking oppurtunities for us. All the good things he did last night came off the back of him running the ball surprise surprise.

The knock on, the forced early kick and a couple of those sideways runs to nowhere in the attacking twenty in the first half are complete momentum killers and against a team in better form we don't get away with blowing those chances, he looks so much better when he just runs and plays off that like that 2nd half.
