I want them for tries not repeat sets.
I know you're one of the ones on here who understands Nathan's kicking (practicality based of NFL). With high bombs, for some reason he tried to change it last week and the Dogs made more meters off "good kicks to the corner"
We changed our whole game plan last week, I’d suggest it was because we were playing Ciro.

We changed our kicking game big time and we changed how we carry out of our own end. Fish and Moses doubled their usual out put and our OB’s halved theirs.

The Dogs looked unprepared and it was no coincidence.

Ivan is a very smart coach.

Kenny is a rock in defense. And can hit it up like a prop. Luke is more creative amd dangerous but also prone to an error and weaker defense.
MK is not a dynamo but he also.is not a weakness. I only see Luke as someone you bring on if chasing points or games over. If you're up by 12 or less I'd feel safer with Kenny on the field.

Best hooker and what’s best for the team are two different things.

Mitch isn’t there for his skills as a dummy half, he’s there to make a whole bunch of hard tackles and pass the ball to Yeo or Nathan. He’s not expected to read the defence, think about jumping out, Kicking and all that smart hooker type stuff.

I think you’ll see use move to Soni next year as our starting nine, with Mitch coming off the bench. That’s if Soni can stay healthy

Once again we lost momentum when Luke came on, Not entirely his fault but if that happens you need to tweek the bench and a specialist hooker makes way in such cases

That is assuming Kenny doesn't keep developing, One area in particular he has improved across the last month is line engagements.

He does that more as a hooker and Luke isn't starting. That was the one area Kenny was and still is behind other starting hookers

The boys bashed the shit out of the Storm for sixty straight minutes after a bad first twenty.

What was the difference that game I wonder?

This is just another one of those games where holding onto the ball, starving Sharks of possession and getting through the sets unscathed is key.

There shouldn’t be anything fancy - just good old fashioned rolling the sleeves up and getting through the work so the 5th tackle options are based on good field position.

Sharks will be absolutely desperate and Panthers for all their strengths can sometimes (even if rarely) jag a loss against a side not fancied against them (ie Tigers).

Ivan will have the lads primed for a war out there. Forwards battle should be delightful. I have a feeling Luai will have a big game this weekend.

He probably will keep developing, but he’s not going to ever really be a deceptive hooker. He’s always just going to be a power player.

I totally agree with you. The Sharks will throw the kitchen sink at Penrith, and possibly even more.

Penrith will need to be patient too. Because the gummies are quite good at throwing dirt and niggle into the game when it suits,

In some ways quite similar to Dogs game. Not a gimmee........I like how Ivan changed the shapes and way of attacking last which must have left CC thinking 'that's not what we trained for'......Good hard nosed coaching.

You don't need a lot of deception, Just attract defenders to give the halves time and space
A “Deceptive” hooker is an actual type or style of hooker. Api is an example of a deceptive hooker.

A “Power” hooker is the other style, The cheese is an example of a power hooker.

That’s how hookers are coached and what is expected from them, with in what ever system is being run.

It would seem to me, that using Luke as a backup to Kenny has been a very smart move. There is no doubt that having Luke breathing down his neck has made Mitch be more adventurous in attack and try and engage the line more. He hasn’t quite nailed the scoot from dummy half yet, but at least he is now trying it.

Last year, he didn’t need to worry about that. Api was number one and he had number two nailed on. Now he is in a fight to be the long term number one and he has risen to the challenge. It’s been great to see. He has improved this year and if he can progress again next year, our biggest issue might be how we keep him under the salary cap.

Your last sentence is spot on.

If that bench spot is going to get very minimum game time, Then surely he is better off playing longer minutes in NSW Cup?

Your friend Soni needs game time. Giving Kenny middle minutes solves that. Hosking likely spends time in the middle too.
if we are looking at 20 mins at the most then an older guy not in need of development is better
Agree. We have 34 contracted players (including the development list) of which we have first graders and young players being prepared for first grade.
The system of "battle hardening" our next generation of Panthers in NSW cup is proven.
Some young blokes need 20 to 30 cup games to be ready while some need 40 to 50.
We were lucky to have a stack of 20 and 21 year old talent at the same time but we all know the salary cap thins that out eventually.
I just want Panthers fans to trust the coaching staff and stop second guessing their selections. They're doing a pretty good job at the moment and the last few years...

But we don't have a number 2 capable of playing more than 20 mins
