I didn't get home until the game was finished and turned the radio off in disgust when I heard that we had over 60% of possession in the first half, but still trailed 16-6.
The Bird at full-back thing has got to stop. So has the Norman at 5/8 thing. And the McCullough thing,
Then, to top it all, I hear on ABC Radio that the signing of Moses Mbye is a done deal. What is this going to achieve, other than to stymie the careers of players like Sullivan and Amone?! We've got a few young, skillful backs coming through - what they need is a dominant forward pack to build a platform that allows them to do their stuff, not some like for like replacement of Corey Norman with another has-been-who-never-really-was sleepwalking his way through game after game.
Our recruitment and development is so far off keeping pace with other clubs it's laughable. Cody Ramsey's U20s highlights reel would take ten times as long to watch as his NRL one. Ditto Jackson Ford. Ditto Adam Clune. We are killing these guys with inept coaching and - by all accounts - archaic training.
We can all see it. Why the f*** can't the brains trust in the club see it and set it right?
I agree with most of what you say but there are a couple of arguments here:
* Mbye is not being recruited to take Norman's position. He being signed to be our utility. He can play FB, Centre and 5/8.
* Amone put his hand up last night and looks streets ahead of Sullivan in terms of claiming the 5/8 position.
* I agree that Bird is a disaster at FB although you can never question his ticker. He is a rugged, in your face defensive centre in my view and nothing else. Let's stop experimenting with him.
* If Griffin doesn't want to use Dufty for whatever reason then use Sloan. At least the kid's got speed to burn and looks to have a lot of attacking flair. Couldn't do worse than Bird last two games.
* In terms of Ramsey, he definitely hasn't set the world on fire but he came into first grade as a fill in when both incumbent wingers (Ravalawa and Pirera) were suspended. He is not a winger. He is a specialist fullback and until he actually gets some serious game time in that position, we will not know whether he can contribute to the improvement of our team.
* Norman has been a waste of cap space and is not competitive in today's game. He has ESL written all over him and has been consistently disappointing since McGregor signed him on big money. I hope Griffin gives him a miss for the rest of the season.
* I agree that We need to pump up our forward stocks. Molo is a good signing but we need a couple more hard heads that can build some intimidation into our pack.
Frankly speaking, I think both McCulloch and McGuire have not disappointed me. Their work rate and commitment is impressive. There is no doubt that they are reaching the veteran stage of their careers but they are a lot better than some of the journeymen we have signed in the recent past.
If we can improve the rest of the pack, their experience could well make a big difference.
* Just a final word on Griffin. I think he is miles ahead of McGregor who we persevered with for 6.5 long years. We can at least give him a chance to see whether his methods are still relevant in today's game.
