Ummm, perhaps because they are being paid $750000 a year might be a reason to make an effort.
Nah Tamou owes us nothing.

We paid overs to sign a grand final winning rep player and he plays like shit for 2 years so we consider offloading him. Why should he do his f**king job? He hasnt for 2 years.why start now.

Oh but when Carty does it every merkin has daggers out for him.

Every team in this competition has improved towards the end of the season except us.

Form wise we should be playing for the spoon next week.

Can anyone name a team we could beat at the moment? I can’t think of one.

We are an absolute laughing stock.

What team goes better with a caretaker coach? That was the point everyone gave up

Not me. I have been on the Katoa band wagon for a long time. His problem in my opinion is that he can’t play 80 minutes so we need someone else on the bench to interchange him with. That isn’t a small problem either. He might never be able to play 80. All the top hookers can.

I honestly would mind seeing Cleary have a go at hooker. He is a gun defender and could last 80 minutes without an issue. He isn’t a flashy half and hooker might even be more suited to him.

Cleary at hooker is actually interesting.

He tried tonight, but he can't get the ball to the outside men. We need Maloney to do that. I'd try him at 9 too. But I'll bet you Ivan won't do it and Nathan himself won't be keen given what 9s and 7s make in this game.

Your wish is granted. But he should have took Gus with him. If the board had a testicle between the lot of them, they'd have said if he goes, you go too.

It's not about what I want. He's not here and everyone seems to think it should've been fixed in a week. Nothing will change this year.

Everytime Blake touched the ball it was because Nathan got it to him.

The only way I can make sense of this team is to look at the Dragons. They also play a power game and have a pretty undynamic attack against a set defence. On the rampage both teams are unstoppable. Like them, we ran out of puff about 4 months too early.

Compounding this, we have a young side that isn’t battle hardened, we suffered absurd injuries and we haven’t had a coach that could construct a play or two to fall back on and pick apart defences.

I guess the other thing is our back 3. We’ve relied on them to carry our forwards for a long time. The pack earned their keep for 3 months but not having Edwards, Sauce and DWZ fully fit for more than half a season has meant the first forward hitting it up is going against a set line after a slow play the ball with little gained post contact.

I’d like us to target Maguire. I think he could do wonders for our discipline, conditioning and season management.

The most disappointing thing about our recent games is that there is no easy fix. Our defense is soft at times, we are often clueless in attack and the number of penalties we give away is ridiculous. So how on earth do we fix it?
Having some certainty in the coaching ranks would be a fair start. Gus needs to man the f**k up and coach the side himself

Get an experienced coach in for next year. Ciraldo has been thrown in at the deep end. For this year, I don't think we fix it.

Not only that but the 2nd rower kicking for himself, otherwise known as doing a 'Ciraldo' has crept into our game.

I'd absolutely hate to say this....but at times I think Matt Elliot would do better with our attack, and I was his biggest detractor.

Also and this is a BIG issue....we need some good proven assistant coaches next year in particular a defensive coach. Our defensive positioning and structure is a rabble at the moment. When we beat the Dragons we had 1 of the best defences in the league. Now it has become the worst. I don't think we have had a good quality defensive coach in ages.

I am willing to bet that most of the defensive work/structure was Griffins work and once we had the 'mid season review' and it had become apparent that hook was on the outer, the boys threw it out the window and we became a disaster (having a Left edge with Maloney, Kikau, Mansour hasn't helped though)

I have been thinking the same for a while. He is a very capable half, but not a 'natural' one. He seems manufactured to me. The biggest impediment would be that generally halfback is a higher pay grade, higher profile position. I think his style would be very well suited to a Cameron Smith type of Hooker and in saying that Cam Smith is also testament that a great #9 can be the 'main man' in a team ahead of the other spine players.

Anyone watching the cowboys game can see how a 9 should pass the ball. From the ground in one motion.

I am sure that defence was one of Griffin’s focuses and probably what he spent most of his time handling.

I recall an interview with Griffin shortly after he was signed. He said something like “Penrith has a lot of talented juniors but when they come into first grade they need to learn how to defend”. In the post match press conferences when asked if he was pleased with anything in our good performances he usually talked about our defence.
