Round 3 vs Sharks

Hunt is not firing and we will not fire until he does and there is considerable doubt if he will ever be a consistent enough player to get us firing week in week out.

Too much ball in to the hands of too few players, so very little variety compared to what we showed in the trials and the 1st 30 minutes of round 1.

Amone & Sloan have become gun shy and Suli and Ramsay are dying from frost bite.

No kicking game to speak of and very little thought applied to that we do have.

Service from dummy half is far too slow and allows the opposition to gain 1.5 metres in their defensive line which shuts down our time and space and leads to 1 out running.

In each game thus far a forward from the opposition has had a tear away run of 50 odd metres skittling our defence along the way and that is totally unacceptable and extremely hard to recover from.

Did the JDB interview (FMD what was that really about?) and the Burgess issue have some impact on us as negative headlines never help?

On a positive note Molo is improving quickly, Sua is excellent and being shit on by the refs but I believe he has to stay true to his style.

Mybe offers something but not quite sure it is anything more than utility.

Thanks mate .......
You are welcome Illusion.
Agree.
Even every bounce of the ball went their way.
Having said that the better side won.
Most of us agree that the better side won and that would be an understatement. Hook admitted we played poorly and whether or not it was because of the game plan or no plan or just not on last night, these things happen. It just takes a thing like Su'a being sent off early in the game to make the swing in the Sharks favour. Maybe even if Su'a wasn't sin binned, the Sharks would have still won easily.

The big thing though is that in the regular season from the second half of last year to round 3 of this season, we have only won twice in 12 games - and that has been against the Warriors who are yet to register a win this season. Much of our demise in those other games we have lost was from the suspensions from BBQ gate and injuries and suspensions so far this year. We did alright in the trials but trials are trials and to me they really don't count.

Hook and his team still have a lot of work and soul searching to do. The new players and young ones and old ones need to prepare better as a team. Run together in defence. Run together in attack. Just don't lag behind. All players should be calling out to one another to "follow me". Defend as one and attack as one. Don't give the opposition an even chance.

They need to be really wanting to win. The coaches should like at how the Sharks, Storm, Roosters, Knights are playing and learn how they are drilled and apply the same standards to our guys - no rocket science in that.

I definitely like what you say Old Timer. You have pinpointed several of the problems that have to be rectified.

The thing that stood out like dogs balls was that Cronulla
were very well coached , each player had a role to perform and they done just that .

The Dragons were a rabble after the first 15 minutes , they played as they had done for the last 7 seasons . We have players going one out and without much direction .

Su’a , what can one say , he hit what he aimed for - Dale Funicane’s big head . He must get that out of his game otherwise he will be fronting the judiciary on a regular basis.

And they certainly have no love for our boys . Speaking of which , late in the game one of the big Shark forwards done the same thing , yet play was allowed to continue on . Am I one eyed , no , but those refs are not giving our boys a fair shake .

Griffin has a big job in front of him and that also involves cracking the whip . Our players must communicate with one another and above all settle into a rhythm and our attack will blossom from there .

I feel the same as everyone else , so utterly disappointed with the result , but more so I am starting to see that this will be another year of so much to offer , yet so little to show .

Whats the solution for going forward...we have problems at 1,6 and 9 that need immediate fixing....think our forward stock is strong and definitely powerful so thank god there...the problem is that Hunt is the only go to person in attack which is very worrying and making him. a very easy target ...there should be split options on either side of the ruck just like Souths played last year...Walker on the left side and Reynolds on the right... Amone has to go absolutely offers zero - he's actually worse than Norman where he passes 3metres before the defensive line .......Sloan is struggling big time both in attack and defence...

Possible changes
1. Ramsay or Mbye and Moga comes in on wing
6. Mbye (which i prefer )
9. Sullivan

Hook was well and truly outsmarted by Fitzy. Dragons turned up to play wet weather football aka dragon ball, one out and compressed defence. Meanwhile the scum turned up playing speedball aka play the ball quick and swing it wide.

One positive though is that we were not penalised for an incorrect play the ball. This weeks training schedule to include 2 passes wide of the ruck.

Sadly, I believe that until we get a proper dummy half….we shall struggle to avoid bottom 4 finish.
Giving away continual penalties, sin binning plus the boring one out shit is a heavy burden for a team to succeed.

Yep, our game plan is way too predictable.

Understand it was pissing down, but the Sharks had zero threat.

As for our last tackle options, the opposition need only worry about a towering bomb.

When teams kick deep, we have a back 1. Only Rava can make metres.

Its only round 3, but apart from 40 odd mins against the Pennies we are rudderless.

It ain't working and hasn't for a few years Hunt to 9 solves that Mybe to 7 might just work ......
Something has to change as we look inept with the ball in hand.
I’d like to see Sullivan given a chance at half and be told to play your natural game. Mybe at 6 and Hunt to 9 with Amone on the bench as a utility.
Unfortunately, Ben Hunt is trying to do too much and it’s not working.

As for Ramsey, he's been copping some flack in here, but I can't remember seeing a team so blatantly misuse a winger like him.

His effort has been great this season but he gets zero quality ball, they never seem to kick anywhere near him, be it high balls or cross fields or grubbers.

He looks ineffective because we only get to see him on first or second tackle hit ups which, even though he has put on some size, are still not his strong suit.

If we are going to persist with picking him which I do support, provided we use him correctly, then it better start soon, otherwise his confidence will suffer...

Im not judging Ramsey or Sloane on yesterday.

You have a point.

However, its obvious that in the current game, the back 3 need to do more than just offer threats in attack.

They must pile up metres coming out from their tryline.
