Whare/Egan for Katoa were both handled poorly by Ivan.

Yeo inevitably goes to centre. But not against the fastest player on the field (Xerri). Put Blake back on the left where he had the best year of his career in 2018.

Egan was excellent, there was no need for the interchange.
Yep, match speed with speed and let Yeo defend against Morris and Feki.

What’s your other option though? Kikau?

Well this is why Fuimaono should of been on the bench but yeah instead of our right backrower. Playing left centre against close to the fastest player in the comp.

Either push Kikau out one or put Blake out there and give Yeo the slower right side

You are only allowed to go for the ball if it doesn't impact the attacking player, that's how it seems now. I don't think it was as clear cut as the Cartwright one. MWZ was trying to reach the ball.

Prob gets away with it if he doesn't wrap his arms around him. That and Kikau stopping in the line is just examples of the low footy IQ we have

The late collapse in defence was certainly disappointing but Cronulla could do nothing right in the first half and we need to be much better at putting teams to the sword - two tries wasn't going to cut it. They didn't even bother going for the high ball, were dropping it all over the place and we were going straight over the top of them.

I understand its your opinion but I'm calling BS.

FWIW I wouldn’t of taken Egan off, he was going well but I think he was spent given his lack of time of late. The exact same as Katoa shouldn’t of been dragged last week.

Youre talking about Katoa’s defence being the main reason, what try was his fault? What chance was created from his missed tackle? He made more tackles in 20 mins then Egan did in 60. He’s an easy target.

They scored two tries running it on the last and one running it on the first from inside there own half. We had opportunities to shut each of those plays down but the glaring issue is our lack of speed. It is an area unfortunately that basically can’t be fixed this season. Time to elevate Brian Too to the top 30 he may not be Xerri in the speed department but is quicker than anything we currently have on the wing.

RCG - Only had eyes for Prior on the Fifita try...was remarkably slow to put pressure on Johnson for Dugan's game winning try. Not impressed.

Anyone else pick up on RCG's shithouse game in defence? More apathetic than an atheist on Good Friday.

+1 to Liam Martin, has been pointed out by a few others. He ran and hit well in defence. Lots of effort in kick chases and was there for the Xerri try. He should definately stay in first grade.

I have given up mentioning his mistakes.. There is too many.

On Martin once again the young guys lead the way

He isn't that quick BUT positions himself well. The blistering pace is in Flegg

Yeh really not sure why Cleary left him out there. Seemed obvious to everyone that he was out on his feet. Thought he put in a decent shift but was left out there for 15+ mins too long.

I didn't think the refs were that bad. Only call I thought was horrendous was Mansour's "knock on" prior to Xerri knocking the ball on in that period where we were parked on our own line. He was facing back (slightly) and the ball went back. No idea what they were seeing.

I don't think the refs lost us this one. Our intense stupidity and atrocious fitness did it.

They always call those knock ons now. Like you I can't argue with many calls

It is certainly a loss that is hard take. We were better for a large portion of the game but probably didnt take full advantage when we should have. Yes we made our usual mistakes and dumb plays but at the same time we got nothing from the match officials who allowed the Sharks to dominate the play the ball by refusing to pull them up for there blatant holding down tactics. The bounce of the ball and luck of the gods deserted us again and the boys should be given some credit for the grit and determination for defending our line late in that second half. I am as gutted as anyone it wasn’t through lack of effort have to give the players that much at least.

That is what I thought at first...but the ref giving his opinion of a try, it was always going to be so. A 50/50 call in which the ref thought this would put the Sharks back in the game. But one can't deny the win for the Cronulla side. Being down that many points was a good effort.

The penalty try didnt matter...it was a split second thing and if he didnt tackle him he scores anyway. ..only the kick would have been 3 m to the left....to quote Guss, speed is power...they had that...you had fatigue. ..bad mix

Maybe you can mount an argument we are not as fit as in past seasons but the effort was there for the full 80 minutes.

Ive been of the view for the last couple of seasons we lack real quality in a couple of areas and with the decline of some of our established players that issue is really being exposed.

I’m over video refs, and Cummins.
Perhaps Gus should blow his top about how Penrith is treated by the referees time and again. Get lots of media scrutiny of Cummins and his record against Penrith!
Maybe, just maybe something positive may happen!
I don’t think any other club would put up with the refereeing we cop!
And maybe Gould should re-assess his situation between being a ch 9 commentator, and being a representative of OUR club. I don't know of any other commentator that is in a similar position that gets himself offf side with the NRL as much as he loves to. It's obvious that they take offence at his protests, which has only in the end benefited the opposition. Ffs Phil, STFU and simply do the job you are there for.

Ofcourse you bitch Ivan doesn't drop players. And then bitch about a player he did.

Fuimaono is shit. He would not have fixed anything. He's a terrible centre. Yep is by far a better option at centre.

Jed Cartwright however would be better again.

I don’t think we’re too far off, there was some good signs, definite progression in some areas. Thought Cleary had another good game as did the majority of the forward pack. Egan looked good & Blake looked as dangerous as he has all year.

We lost. Life goes on.

You really do need to watch the defensive side of the game. Both Katoa and RCG often make soft tackles and fail to put the player on the ground - results in quick play the balls. No coincidence the Sharks rolled forward while these 2 are on the paddock.

Oh shit, another statistician. Sharks had more ball while Katoa and RCG were defending (at least that is what they call it). Quality of tackle is not included on the stat sheet, just whether they were involved in a tackle.

Sorry if your sensitivities re Katoa are offended. He's not an easy target - he's unfit, inept and needs to be trained on how to tackle. He can do that in NSW Cup.
