Round 6 vs Sharks

There are serious discipline problems at our club, the off season exposed that and still hasn’t been addressed.

Put a line through Penrith for 2019, we may (unlikely) make the finals but we’re just making numbers up...

I think this Gus v Ivan feud is going to linger, I think it’s getting to the stage now if this needs to be addressed and people need to be moved on so the club can move forward...

Again another season of expectation and we can’t handle the pressure, weak as piss at times within this club.

You really do need to watch the defensive side of the game. Both Katoa and RCG often make soft tackles and fail to put the player on the ground - results in quick play the balls. No coincidence the Sharks rolled forward while these 2 are on the paddock.

Oh shit, another statistician. Sharks had more ball while Katoa and RCG were defending (at least that is what they call it). Quality of tackle is not included on the stat sheet, just whether they were involved in a tackle.

Sorry if your sensitivities re Katoa are offended. He's not an easy target - he's unfit, inept and needs to be trained on how to tackle. He can do that in NSW Cup.

Jesus mate, R U OK?

I can think off the top of my head a couple of times where Egan was saved my DWZ on the line in the first 15.

Anywayyyyy this ain’t gonna go anywhere.

Hard to run wide when he's being played in the middle.
And like I said, him running wide off the ruck with his blistering speed might have have some difference. Yes, maybe he was stuck running it up in the middle, I hope they can utilize him in that position in the future.

Test Fullback
Origin winning halves
Origin prop

Compare that to the spine we played tonight

DWZ is solid nothing more nothing less. James Maloney is showing his age and clearly tonight Shawn Johnson with his running game showed what we are missing. Nathan is a work in progress and probably doesn’t do much more than the much maligned Chad Townsend and frankly you could argue both Brailey brothers are better than both our dummy half’s. Our spine is a large part of the problem not part of the solution.

My TV was lucky to get out unscathed. I can't imagine how Brandy held it together in the box.
He was well composed as much as he could be. Poor Buderus must be having a hell of a time in Fox locking him in for he games that he does for Newcy. They probably thought they were going to do something groundbreaking.

So why is all locked up long term then? If we can't be expected to beat more inexperienced teams

So penalty try was a fair call? What about DWZ pushing Townsend on tackle 2?

Hard to argue with most of the calls

I didn’t think it was a fair penalty try, MWZ contacted the ball, he was clearly trying to compete for the ball. That’s definitely not a pentalty try. I don’t think it was even a penalty.

No way Mansour knocked that ball on to give them their 3rd or 4th set in a row.

They also missed a knock on by Brailey in that madness when they had 5 or 6 sets in a row.

I agree we are a dumb team, but we never get the close calls. We need a little bit of luck.

Our current spine other than Nathan Cleary is hardly locked up long term and contracts largely don’t mean a thing anyway.

I couldn’t be bothered doing the sums but how are the Sharks any more inexperienced
than us given Dugan, Morris, Johnson, Townsend, Fafita, Gallen, Prior and so and so on?

As history will show Gould placed his faith in the likes of Cleary & RCG as being the way forward. I still think Clearly will be our long term half back even if not in the immortal class but sadly RCG for five years on big money will come back to haunt us as he is sadly bog average.

I have no comlaints about it being awarded a penalty try but we should have done a lot, lot better in shutting there play down before it got to the point of them scoring.

On the other hand I certainly agree the bounce of the ball, rub of the green and some questionable decisions all went against us as it tends to do when Cummins is a match official at our games.

We are all doom and gloom, rightly so, but I repeat they don’t score on that penalty try play and we would be all fine and dandy given we would have got the two points. We maintain that 14 point lead other than that play we win period.

They are absolutely better.

One set of six, late in the game, Blayke ignored his halves on two tackles to target the retreating third marker down the blindside, and picked up an easy 30-35m. It was so simple, just look at the retreating player, identify where he should be defending, dip out from dummy half, and put your centre/second rower in behind the slow defender. Really put us on the back foot, and got the Sharks into great attacking position.

Katoa and Egan just don't read the game that well. We're far too robotic, we do set plays because someone has called them, not because they are on. Our match awareness, and reading of the game has regressed so damn much.

I haven't seen Segeyaro play in a long time, but you could probably still make an argument for him being better than Katoa and Egan too. So that would be 3 hookers at the Sharks better than any of ours.

The biggest problem with our team and you dont have to be einstein to figure it out is our back 3 dallin mansour edwards malakai seems like all our errors penalties penalty tries missed tackles are coming from those 3 blokes and its happening week in week out.

I just hope that when Cleary snr is sacked, they get rid of o'neill as well. I thought that we had progressed from the club that was full of cronyism and ineptitude. Having a chairman (or whatever o'neill is) that hires his mates instead of hiring a coach with results is pathetic.

Have to ask this....
Who in team has any flair? I would say these 3.
Dwz
Blake
Kikau

Why the hell is Kikau being wasted carting it up in the guts for a settler after a scrum or any other play. I noticed it multiple times when in attacking positions.Let the pigs do that.

Why does Blake only get fed early ball maybe 2 x a game? Get it to him every 2nd set.

And some offloads for DWZ or Edward's in the middle. Edward's looked great last season when forwards offloaded. He would steal another 10mtrs. They would have to do another tackle in the set.

Next problem is these guys

Mansour + RCG

Both would cost close to what Ferguson and Jnr Paulo cost eels. Two players can transform a team. I'd say if swapped them out you would of won last night against the titans and also beat the eels and sitting 4/5. They are high paid stars offering nothing. And on long term contracts. Hopefully their form improves.

Dean Whare is far from the problem.

If we miss the 8 this year O'Neill should walk.

I'm good. For me it's not a case of Egan v Katoa. Tired of people making excuses for Katoa when he's obviously just not up to it. But if you're a fan, you're a fan.

Mansour I would use as the bench backrower/back. To get him into the pack.

Whare is the shadow of himself. He will go well in ESL.

Give RCG a stint in NSW Cup.

If Edwards isn't FB shop him around. Someone will take him

Then frees up cash to fill those holes
