I’ve been watching a lot of the NPC this year all be it extended highlights and there’s some tremendous talent knocking about in New Zealand outside of the super rugby competition that would IMO go well in the NRL.

if I was an NRL club I’d be getting the cheque book out for Waikato forward oli Mathis who is a freakish talent who would kill it in RL.

what is the pay for an NPC/fringe SR player compared to bottom end NRL?

Not sure but I can’t see it being a lot.

i would guess a non contracted super rugby player would be setup with a decent paying job outside of rugby by the local provincial union.

so there would be an incentive for them to break into the NRL top squad - but would probably mean a year of playing lower level state cup in NSW/Queensland

Definitely but I think a player like oli Mathis is a highly rated teenager who I believe was captain of the NZ schoolboys and junior all blacks so I’m guessing he’d be on a decent packet with progression to a super rugby contract.

I guess that is the thing. For him to go to NRL they NRL club would have to take a risk and pay overs for someone who hasn't played the sport. It is lower risk going for a junior or established RL player

They would but this kid is a dead set freak who has the perfect build and running game of a RL backrower.

Sua'ali'i played junior rugby league for the Glenmore Park Brumbies, before transferring to the Coogee Wombats when he was 12. He played League, Union and AFL whilst he was still in primary school at Regentville Public School.

He went to The Kings School at Parramatta, where he became a permanent fixture in its first XV for Union, he was considered talented enough he was given an exemption at age 14 to be allowed to play, and was part of the Australian Under 18s union side that defeated in New Zealand in 2019. He also played NSW School whilst at high school. He did this whilst playing Harold Matthews for Souths.

In Union, he played fullback.

Suaalii first professional game of union is going to be for the wallabies ?

that’s the equivalent of Nawaqanitawase first game of league being for the kangaroos.

Union needs five more suaaalis … McLennan
Is the union mob so delusional they think they are global stars ?

if there was a list of the worlds 100 most famous athletes there wouldn’t be a union player on it.

im sure suaallii will be stuck in his hotel room too afraid to exit with the throng of fans clamourning outside waiting to get a glimpse their favourite global superstar.
