Vichy France has to be up there too

or rfu allowing nz and wales to have broken time payments after the nu broke away

What’s the bit about southern unions not agreeing to rule changes ?

English rl is a joke. You’ve got an Aussie pouring in millions of pounds to prove rugby league works in Toronto and they do their best to kill it off
Stop rewriting history. Wolfpack were broke, weren't paying their players and couldnt fulfill fixtures. When asked to show financial security they couldnt. Wolfpacks failing was on one person, its dodgy Aussie owner.

“Every opportunity has been given to Toronto Wolfpack to provide the assurances our clubs need,” Robert Elstone, the Super League chairman, said. “As part of our comprehensive investigation into this whole subject, Super League appointed an independent committee of sports industry experts, with representation from the RFL, to examine commercial opportunities for rugby league in Canada.

“Its findings were unanimous: that operating a team in a fiercely competitive North American sports market was non-strategic and added no material incremental revenue to Super League in the short or medium term.” The Guardian understands that the new ownership’s failure to provide proof of funding at the meeting was a major factor in why the decision went against Toronto, with clubs concerned about the lack of financial clarity.

No doubt, and probably just hastened what already looked, and by all accounts was, a shaky ship. Having gone bust, not met its fixture obligations and not paid its players you cant blame the RFL and other clubs for being very cautious about keeping them in with new owners.
Its a real shame as there was clearly a growing fanbase in Toronto for the club but it was a pack of cards with no real sustainability. RFL aren't the AFL who can afford to prop up clubs not earning much.

And Rowley believes the business strategy was floored.
He said: “Sometimes the team bus didn’t turn up so we would catch the tram with the public and all our medical beds and stuff.

Firstly , we've already crushed yawnion in Australia ,
any further measures would be just spitting on its grave

If Vichy was the only thing they had done since 1895 I would be spitting

as you know Vichy is the tip of the iceberg

trying to take over the name rugby is another

What was the average loss of hull kr over the last 20 years ? And didn’t hudgell almost walk away

but at least you got a full share of the tv deal and didn’t have to pay travelling teams airline and accomodation costs

I remember when there were chanpsionship clubs complaining their players had to pay for sandwiches he’s whilst visiting Toronto

and their crowd average was higher in the champ than hull kr in sl lmao

No they weren’t you dope

they signed sbw on a 5 million pa contract

they had no home games in Toronto due to covid which is when the rfl should’ve stepped in and helped them

unlike all the other bludger English clubs who got covid loans from the English govt and money to pay their players argyle had to cover it all with no tv money

he got sick of being treated like an outsider and walked away

And whose about to play in a CC semi? Heres a clue, its not the house of cards Argyle wolfpack!
HKR have played RL since 1882, Toronto lasted 3 years!
If the new owners had put money on the table to show they were not dodgy like the first owner they'd have been in. They didnt, couldnt and arent.
They could have dropped down to Championship and rebuilt for promotion if they really had the funds to back a club, they didn't. Should tell you something.

Two years on he still hadnt paid the players what they were owed, dodgy as f**k.

You dont think the UK Govt covid money to the RFL came with a caveat that it could only be used for British businesses? Haha. Catalans survived it.

Leigh
Wakey
Salford

all clubs who entered voluntary administration and didn’t pay players all their money

you know the same Leigh who are coming second now

Toronto threatened the status quo. Insular super league wasn’t ready for a modern club who attracted a new demographic of fans t

Oh add hull kr entered administration 97 lmao

“Hull Kingston Rovers entered administration in January 1997, and, but for the diligence of administrator Edward Klemka and the fund-raising activity of the Hull Kingston Rovers Supporters Group, the 1997 season would almost certainly have been their last.”

And yet they are still playing in SL, Didnt go under due to covid, havent stopped paying their players and face a bright future.

If youre business model is largely built on generosity of one dodgy man you're in trouble (Tinkler, Koucash anyone?)
We now own the stadium and surrounding development land and have a number of high profile millionaires on the board. Happy days.

Remember it well, was in the march to raise money to keep the lights on. Helped paint the ground and bought shares in the club to keep some key players. Tough times but we came through it and face a bright future. Unlike Argyle and the wolfpack.
