Storm will benefit from this.
don't think it will help much if the Rebels fold except perhaps
- top juniors might go to RL over RU if they play both
- might get a better stadium deal since there is one less tenant
- potential sponsorship/corporate support

My understanding is that there is a bit of cross-over in the rebels/storm support base

I’ve been to Melbourne twice in the last 6 months. I saw people wearing Storm jerseys but not once did I see anyone in a Rebels jersey or even any mention of them.

Minimal cross over between fans - the Rebels would be the least visible professional sport team in the nation. I mentioned the Rebels impending demise to a large bunch of blokes that are big sports fans here (AFL, NBA and cricket mainly but we occasionally talk about Storm or SOO). The only one who had even heard of the Rebels was a former NRL player. Everyone knows the Wallabies, and some used to go to the occasional Wallabies game (not recently) but the Rebels will not be missed.

RU is mainly in the inner and middle suburbs and RL is all outer suburbs.

Regarding juniors, NRLVic would want to get a couple of junior clubs up and running within 20km of AAMI Park next season to try to grab some of the kids playing RU. There is a League Stars clinic in Bentleigh East, that is about in ‘RU territory‘.

100% this

When I moved to Melbourne in the 2000s, I was constantly told by people that "Union" is much bigger in Melbourne then League (and maybe it is at the amateur level), but they have had zero presence in the Melbourne market since their inception in 2011.

I've been to a few games, because they are always giving away tickets to corp boxes etc.
