Though that's true to an extent, particularly pre-80s, it's also way more complex than that.

The reality is that Argentine politics, like most South and Central American politics, doesn't mesh very well with the standard Western conceptions of the left and right wing of politics for the most part, and would be better described as being totally overrun with extremism, corruption, and incompetence on all sides by our standards.

Milei for example is an extremist Libertarian. So extremist that his ideology sits so far outside the Overton window by Australian standards that trying to warp it to fit neatly into our left/right dichotomy is a fool's errand.

No one that really transcends the sport, no. At least in Australia. In New Zealand probably, in South Africa maybe. Everywhere else it is pretty niche and there are certainly no global superstars from Union.

The NZ Rugby empire struck back yesterday. While the Warriors were being crushed by the un fancied Titans, the Auckland Blues won the Super Rugby title in front of a sold out Eden Park. With Souths tragic Caleb Clark featuring strongly. Hopefully he’s not immune to Wayne’s persuasiveness.

It was an all New Zealand grandfinal that was always going to sellout.

the big test for the warriors is not letting their season spiral out of control that sees them finishing in the bottom 2.

Caleb Clarke has spoken about playing in the NRL, he'd be an absolute weapon.

Problem is league Wingers get paid about 600k, in Union he could get 1m +

Shame the clubs ( mosty the bottom placed teams ) voted against cap dispensation for signing Union players.

Clarke wont be on a mill with NZR. When he last re-signed in mid '22 he'd had a good SR season but hadn't played a test in 2 years so he wouldn't have demanded a top tier contract. I'd guess maybe 600-700k tops?

He's off contract this year though so no doubt weighing options. But he's the form left wing in the country too after a massive SR so one of those options will be a likely AB starting spot.

I agree though; he'd go real well as an NRL wing. Brick of a dude with a sprinting background and good in the air as well.
