Can you use custom teams in career mode? Or is it just in season mode?

Yes mate, custom teams can be used in career...thats what I'm doing at the moment.
Create your custom team, then go into career, when you get to the part where you choose which team you want to control there is a button you press (Green triangle for PS3) which allows you to replace a NRL team with a custom team...once replaced you choose that team to control & away you go.

I still can't get custom teams in franchise. Are you able to do it because of a game update that you download? I've just bought the game and don't have network access on my ps3.

Looking to start a good career to grow a team, and build them up.... Any suggestions?

I did the Panthers this year roster. Oldest player is Sika Manu

I customised and used NYC and NSW Cup team players.

Depth players the likes of Moss, Satini etc. Given that some players have terrible stamina etc but it's more a challenge and you can build them up

On a side note this has been my custom Panthers backline since xmas. Aside from Simmons and Walsh Penrith have copied and are 4/5

I think they'll just add them since they already have more than one selection of jersey for most sides.
