So how does this trending thing all work? Does it measure the number of tweets over a given time (an hour, a day?) which have a key word? How does it allocate it to certain cities or countries? Are you able to see stats on the number of tweets?

Did any other games trend over the weekend?

Would be good if everyone knew and used one standard term. #2 + #3 could possibly have been > #1...

I think it would've gone close. At one point all the Australian tags were related to the game in some way.

Twitter works best if the tag is shorter but also clear, for example:

#origin is better than #stateoforigin

as people can type it faster
but that said

#origin is also better than #soo as people tend to get confused by uncommon initialisms i.e. people know what an ORIGIN is but might not know what a SOO is.

That said - it would help if the NRL came out and said - use #origin - and 9 broadcast it on their coverage as well.
