I agree on Johnson, I think, but then I get when others disagree - personally I think he's a downhill skier - but I do see effort, it's just he's been in first grade so long and I am not sure he understands what his role is, and he makes some (too many) horrendous decisions - some of that must come down to coaching - but also he's not an rookie, so must me some responsibility on him too
You 2 fellas are spot on. I'm not a Johnson hater as comments in the past may seem to give off, but nowhere near a fanboy of his either
I had warmed to his NRL play this season, stills flaws in his game, but couldn't fault any effort which I have plenty of times in the past. Even last night post match, could hear the pain in his voice compared to the others, and I respect that. His general kicking game in the NRL this season improved dramatically, and there were signs there of some game management creeping in at times as well
But he is a serious flat track bully, when the going gets tough, he disappears far too often. If he gets crunched in a tackle early on, the cue goes in the rack. If we look at all the highlights from his career at the death, it is instinctive plays that he has been forced into, rather than classical halfback play engineering something.
I don't think he is made to be a halfback, a running 5/8 or even fullback maybe, but the catch 22 there is that since breaking his leg he seems extra timid and scared of contact so barely runs the ball
The things that baffles me the most I guess, is that for the majority of his time with the Warriors, he has had NZs greatest halfback involved in his coaching. In 7 years of professional play, with Jones around him and his natural ability, we should be talking about a top liner here, not how we are talking about him currently
Have mentioned it many times on here, but when Freddy gave him a tip on the Sunday footy show last season as simple as "get your jersey dirty", SJ came back with a what would he know, I don't care what he says response. Surely if a great of the game says something, you listen and give it respect rather than thinking you know best
