I think Bellamy achieved what he set out to do with Sam Kasiano and that was to get him slimmer and more mobile. We saw the slimmer Kas, problem is, the loss of Sams power was probably more than they anticipated. Sams still got another couple of years in him IMO. They just need to balance his weight right. He actually needs to look a bit fatter like Andrew Fifita, like Sam use to look like at the Doggies. I'd take that Sam over some of the powerless props we got now.

He had lost a lot of punch at the Bulldogs prior to going to Melbourne. Blokes like Fifita and Lazarus are rarities that can play that big for that long. Avoid at all costs.

Two months being in Auckland and he'll pack on some decent weight!
Play him for 30 minutes a game with big runs/offloads and Bunty, Paasi and Ah Mau to share the other 130 minutes between them.

He would be one of the top prospects for the money we have available that would be willing to come over here.

If I was Kearney I'd take Sam Kasiano but only the bigger version. Get him to hit the weights, do yoga and play a bit of basketball or touch footy over the off season. The skinny Kasiano strikes me as a poor mans Matulino.

You guys have rocks in your head. No way we take Kasiano.

We got the stock to test out right here in NZ. We just need to play patient with snaring a good prop when one is available (A marquee prop not a rookie on the rise untested type)

Well at the moment our best prop is Ah Mau and Paasi who's struggled to make selection for the kiwis. We all know Paasis not exactly 'up there' with the best but he's definitely 'there abouts'. After those two it's Afoa and Satae which arent that good IMO. Basically, it looks to me that we will have another year where we will struggle with our pack. We need props yesteryear so we've definitely been patient.

Right now were very light in our 4th prop spot, and will have to rely on either Satae, a newbie or Lisone.

Luke is going to be gone end of next year, maybe SJ too, and with a bunch of newbies and potential recruits to fill those names mentioned, I think next year is our best chance at a proper finals dig in the next few years.

Kasiano - if the money is right, I say go for it. Hed be a massive upgrade to our prop rotation this year, so he's only going to improve our team.

Apparently the Storm are willing to pay out a chunk of Kasiano’s contract for the next couple of years- that could make him a pretty good bargain pickup.

I'd be happy with throwing a 1 year deal to Kasianos way and make him earn a renewal.
Can't see too many downsides to that

Can't see him only taking a 1 year deal, someone will offer him atleast a 2, maybe 3 year deal.

We were going to pay Gavet 450k, of Storm are going to pay a portion of Kasiano's contract, surely that means we'd only pay upwards of 350,400k?

Less money than Gavet for a better return?
Sign him up!

He’s got two years left on his Storm contract so that’s two years we could get him for unders, I’d be offering a two year deal for whatever ends up costing us no more all up than we’ve saved by releasing Gavet. Pretty decent upgrade, potentially.

Totally agree....much better then our current situation, playing either Lisone, Satae or blooding a newbie got the whole year...

The story on Kasiano is if he comes we will trade players. It was already a massive no thanks, but that seals the deal for me. There’s no special deal to be had here. Make no mistake. He’s a dud. His best days are done. Bellamy trades you off like this when he sees nothing in you. And if he finds something in nearly everything he touches.

Would you change you tune if the Storm wanted Lisone? Though more seriously didn’t they look at Satae earlier this year? Not so sure on that one, I think Satae deserves more time and a proper shot at a full first grade season but I’d swap the Sams in a heartbeat.

What story is this? I haven't seen any news around this so am interested to hear any other potential information.
Would we not just literally use the money we had planned to spend on Gavet?

I think you're being a bit harsh on Kasiano, I think he only played 4 out of the last 18 rounds or so this year due to injury etc. Can't really gauge imo, still, give him some pies and he'll go back to what he used to be

It's been reported in a few places - seems the cap is tight, might be that they needed to shed Gavet

I do wonder if Kasiano is a bit like Foran as a player - people fondly remember the way he was, but he hasn't been useful for quite a while

Big difference there is Foran’s personal issues. As far as I know Sam has never had attitude/personal/professionalism issues.
He definitely got with the programme and slimmed down at Melbourne but injuries seemed to hobble him. That’s probably the question mark.
