The cap situation with Canberra is intriguing. In the press reports of the Lomu signing there was plenty of space available. Since then there has been an unofficial announcement of two mystery signings and the cap space is suddenly tight with the only contract re-structuring within that time being Kris Kahler.

It appears Canberra have been intent on payment to two signings and various extensions well before Smith factored in for another season. Now its just a matter of deffered payments to make room.

Yes it simply appears to be a minor hiccup caused by Smith surprising everyone with his intention to play on. Deferred payments is no big deal. Probably every club has players on these to fit them under the cap.

Sharks are also interested now. I can see why Big Mick reacted the way he did, although the idiot part was uneccessary. It's such a ridiculous proposition that Penrith would release a SOO player early that no panther fans could believe it. We still are stunned he's being offered a release if he's happy to go.
